Grandmother catches him fleeing the room naked, DNA evidence is collected, Child Abuse Unit handles the case -- and prosecutors drop both felony charges and let him plead to a misdemeanor. Christian Funez, 35, is an illegal immigrant from Honduras. He was charged with two counts of sexual assault, a second-degree felony carrying 2-20 years in prison each. The victim told deputies she went to sleep and woke up to Funez on top of her. She hit on the wall to alert family but no one heard. Her grandmother eventually opened the door and saw Funez running out covering himself with his boxers. Physical evidence was recovered during a penile swab. After indictment, Funez skipped town. A warrant was issued in July 2022. He was a fugitive for nearly two years before being caught in May 2024, and gave police a fake name. Then came the plea deal. Prosecutors dropped both felony sexual assault charges and reindicted the case as indecent assault -- a misdemeanor. Sentence: 364 days in county jail. The false ID charge was dismissed too. A child was raped in her own bed by a an illegal immigrant. There was physical evidence, an eyewitness. The suspect fled and hid for two years. And Travis County prosecutors treated it like he got caught shoplifting at Target.

I am absolutely devastated and sick to my stomach, but this needs to be called out — because this animal shelter is not even trying to prevent euthanasia. I offered to adopt Lucy from Los Angeles County Animal Control – Palmdale. So did many others across Instagram, X, and Facebook. She was only 1 year old. Her behavior assessment was a 1 — meaning sweet, gentle, and good with other dogs. She even had a euthanasia hold placed when I offered to adopt. And today, they killed her anyway. When adopters are waiting and adamantly trying to save a dog, and you still choose death, that’s not overcrowding — that’s animal cruelty and moral failure. What kind of monsters do this? This has to stop. These California shelters must be exposed and held accountable. Too bad soulless Gavin Newscum won’t do anything to prevent this in the future. And to the person who failed Lucy — I hope you see this and realize you are directly responsible for killing this dog. No animal should pay with their life for human neglect.
