Folks, the podcast will be on hiatus for a few weeks as work, family, and travel stack up for host and guests. I'd like to return with a series of episodes on "building non-toxic communities". Please recommend people and projects who've done this well or tried ambitiously!

I really love the idea of "optimizing for fun." Even more than that, I love how @jntrnr talks about what that means on the ground. #15" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#15

Another fascinating thought from @jntrnr on @nu_shell "[we wanted] the error messages [to] feel like they're not slapping you on the hand, they're really trying to help you." That's the kind of design thinking I wish there was more of around. #15" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#15

This is something I'm trying to figure out how to balance. I think there is a real mistake when you adopt too much of the feel of another project, because it gives people expectations that the other pieces will work the same as well.

An amazingly good point about teaching people complex interfaces is the importance of making something that users can "discover a piece at a time, rather than throwing you in and making you learn all at once." #15" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#15

Episode 15 where I am joined by @jntrnr to discuss @nu_shell has dropped! Give it a listen. We discuss a fascinating project, and JT's view on ergonomics and design for a shell is really compelling. #15" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#15

Episode 15, Where I talk with @jlongster about @actualbudget has aired. We go pretty deep into a very cool project called absurd-sql where sqlite is stored in indexedDB, and talk about offline first and local first apps from a product perspective. #15" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#15

Before talking to @biwanczuk I didn't understand how much of deno is an opinionated toolchain. I think because it feels so much like a browser, I don't find its lack of configurability limiting, but I would complain about them in the node world. #14" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#14

@biwanczuk on removing TS for internal code: "It turned out we managed to remove over a hundred thousand lines of code and streamline our build process significantly [...] and it didn't have any disadvantage in terms of how much the code is maintainable" #14" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#14

@nu4ur Thanks for the report. Seems like the menu there was clipping against the top of the container, so I have resolved the problem in the most correct and elegant way, by moving the player to the bottom of the container. PS, subscribe and you can listen in your podcatcher of choice

@PodcastRuntime Trying to listen to a podcast on the website, but speed can only be set to 4x. That is a bit fast... even for my ears. How about the usual 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2? (Firefox 93)

I want an award for journalistic integrity for not editing out the dumbest question I've asked someone in an interview, where I clearly believe that @deno_land is actually executing typescript, and not just transpiling it behind the scenes. #14" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#14

I really liked recording this podcast because Rafael asks really interesting questions and isn't afraid to go into the weeds. Give it a listen, rather give the whole show a listen - it's value outsizes it's popularity right now

Episode 12, where @calebporzio joins me to discuss @alpinejs has dropped! It's a great conversation that gets deep into the weeds about the implementation. #12" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">runtimepodcast.com/#12
