We at STS woke up today to the heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear friend, Bob Rand. Bob was one of the finest journalists of his generation. As a reporter for the Miami Herald, he flew to Los Angeles when the Menendez brothers case first broke and spent decades becoming one of the world’s foremost authorities on that story. His expertise earned the respect of everyone involved, including Lyle Menendez, who paid tribute to Bob today. In recent weeks, Bob, Anne Schwartz, and all of us at STS had been planning a special live event bringing together the Menendez and Jeffrey Dahmer cases. I had been speaking with Bob almost every week, sometimes several times a week, making this loss all the more shocking. Beyond his remarkable career, Bob was a devoted father, a wonderful friend, and someone who embraced life with genuine enthusiasm. He will be deeply missed by all of us at STS. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob’s family and loved ones. May his memory forever be a blessing. A reminder to all of us how short and unpredictable our time is on earth. #DanMarkel latest… Multiple sources telling me no one from the State Attorneys’ Office has reached out to Katie Magbanua, at any time recently, about any sort of deal — no discussion was had with KM about vacating her conviction. My take: Is this possible down the road? Maybe. For a variety of reasons. But, again, sources tell me nothing is happening right now.
