Pokémon has a long standing tradition of producing postcards for the public to enjoy and use. These wonderful beauties were illustrated by the talented Keiko Fukuyama. These postcards were released between 1998-2000 in multiple sets, celebrating Pokémon throughout the year. Some of the postcards incorporated some Gen. 2 Pokémon as well (pictures 2/3). If you’re unaware, Keiko Fukuyama is heavily beloved in the Pokémon space. She’s illustrated a number of cards for the TCG, and other works, like the Pikachu picture book I’ve shown off previously. Of these, what is likely my favorite of her work, would be the Southern Islands set. Keiko Fukuyama is 1/2 of the genius that illustrated the Southern Islands postcards and set, the Rainbow Island. Picture 4 is the Mew card from the set as an example of how stunning it is ✨

This promotion was a really big deal at the time for a couple different reasons. The first was that this took place during the Pokémania craze in 1999/2000. A Pokémon toy was given out with each kids meal as part of a promotional run for the release of the first Pokémon movie.   There were 59 toys in total. Each toy came with an associated trading card with perforated edges. (Pictures 1 & 2)   Additionally, there were six different Poké Balls with 23-karat gold plated cards inside available for purchase. These were, and still are, quite popular.   The second, and larger reason this promotion is so well known, was due to a recall for the toys. Unfortunately, two infants passed away due to the toys choking potential. Hasbro, makers of the toy, rereleased them in March of 2000 with small holes in the plastic to mitigate the choking risk.

It’s time to be honest.. Pretending to be someone I’m not, on social media has been exhausting and depressing. Every day it’s the same thing. Wake up, doom scroll all day, live online, go to bed.. Over the last few years it’s caused my depression to spiral even more. I’ve gained weight, and it’s sad looking at myself now compared to the version of me 10 years ago. A few people here know me in person. We’ve hung out, gone to dinner or lunch, etc and they know that I’m a completely different person than this version most of you know. You wouldn’t even recognize me if you only knew me from social media. It’s exhausting trying to keep up with. The other night, I hit a breaking point. I sat in the shower realizing how depressed I’ve become, and how much it’s affecting my own family. They don’t deserve that. I’m going to start focusing on my own mental health and my family more. Doom scrolling social media, and trolling isn’t worth the depression, and anxiety it’s brought me. So if all you see from me going forward are restocks or updates, just know I’m working on myself. I’m going to be stepping back, and soon I’ll have an AI assistant handling most of the posting and updates for me. Because this is not a life I enjoy. I truly hate social media. I think for a lot of us, it becomes an outlet when we aren’t happy with our real lives. We come here and become someone else. Growing up, a lot of us were told to bottle things up because we're men. That mindset is part of why men's depression and suicide rates are so high. People do not care enough about men's mental health. There's an entire month dedicated to it, and most people probably don't even know. I just hope people can accept this and give me the space to better myself. I’m gonna sign off for now.
