ATP 🎾 Alexander Zverev ML (2%) Sure Joao Fonseca will have a mighty crowd behind him and that he’s overall a very talented player, but this match needs to be priced wider. It’s way too short. Despite the flashes of how great Fonseca can be, he lacks maturity. He’s 19 years old and is still developing overall. Fonseca is a very aggressive player, but lacks control at times. That’s an aspect of his game that needs work. It’s his consistency. If he’s on, he’s unplayable, but if he’s off, he’ll pile up the unforced errors and begin spiraling. Zverev is a Top 3 player. He’s experienced and is quite literally the definition of baseline consistency. He’s not a guy that racks up a lot of unforced errors and is usually good at playing to his opponents pace. A large part of this short pricing is the Garin match, but he rebounded really well against Bergs. The serve is strong part of Zverev’s game. He’s usually pounding the first serve over 70% of the time and Fonseca isn’t the greatest returner and will struggle on return if Zverev is effectively landing the serve. Regardless, it all comes down to baseline consistency. Zverev has been more aggressive this year with his attack, especially wanting to establish more of an offensive game. Zverev’s ability to control pace and remain consistent from the baseline, can be a problem for Fonseca if he’s not finding the court. Fonseca upped his level and played very good tennis against Sinner, but he was also priced very wide and priced accordingly. This is a different scenario. He’s priced extremely short. The market is giving him too much appreciation. If Fonseca ups his aggressive nature and if he’s finding the court, Zverev will start playing passive, especially during big points. That’s how Fonseca wins this match. If he can’t remain consistent, he’ll get worn down by Zverev. Zverev is a must play in my opinion at this price. It’s too short. Zverev is too good of a player and is experienced in these matches to fade here. With his strong baseline play, combined with a more aggressive attack this year, I like him at these odds to win.
