@JacobPritchett @DPearsonPHL an unconstitutional law is unconstitutional, period. you cite a "cost-benefit" analysis but then cite "outcomes"... which is it? we would have less speeding if you banned vehicles, but that would be crazy.. right? except the outcome would achieve what you want.

@PoliticsIsLoca1 @DPearsonPHL The data seems to suggest that this program isn't a waste of resources. Usually we judge something based on whether or not it achieves the stated outcomes. In this case the cameras are resulting in less speeding

I'm honestly a little shocked at how smoothly the rollout of speed cameras across Philadelphia has gone. Outside of influencer types (and the worst member of Council) there's no substantial opposition so far. inquirer.com/transportation…

@DPearsonPHL my dude every single ticket challenged under these grounds is dismissed. State must prove the driver was operating that vehicle, which it cannot when issued ticket to a vehicle itself. Just because people are dumb and pay a bill in the mail doesn't make it legal or constitutional

@PoliticsIsLoca1 This is a pretty silly objection given the system works and no one has gotten their tickets dismissed on these grounds.

@AriDrennen no offense, but your take is terrible. there is no such thing as "outing" a minor - the parent is legally responsible for the child, for better or worse, and is absolutely entitled to any and all information regarding mental health or whatnot

Idaho Gov. Brad Little just signed a law that fines schools $100,000 if a counselor doesn't out a trans kid to their parents within 72 hours. A physical therapist has already closed his practice and left the state. This is what "parental rights" looks like in practice.

@DriscollForPHL speed cameras are illegal and unconstitutional. a moving violation is not legal when issued to a vehicle, a moving violation MUST be issued to a driver only. It isn't a difficult concept..

Heads up, Northeast Philly drivers: Speed cameras are now active on Frankford Ave (Route 13). A 60-day warning period started April 13—no tickets yet, but warnings will be mailed if you’re speeding. Fines begin June 12. Please slow down and drive safely.

Philadelphia has demonstrated the effectiveness of speed cameras on Roosevelt Boulevard and Broad Street. It’s time we made them available to the rest of the Commonwealth. The data is clear: speed cameras make streets safer for everyone.

EFF exists to protect people's digital rights. Not just the people who already value our work, have opted out of surveillance, or have already migrated to the fediverse. The people who need us most are often the ones most embedded in the walled gardens of the mainstream platforms. (3/5) eff.org/deeplinks/2022…

Just got access to Claude Mythos… & ughhhhhhhhh this is AGI. It was the first time a model one shotted a 10/25G Ethernet MAC/PCS, it even knew to select the right line rate and data width for lower latency. This alone is something that would take a really skilled digital designer 3-6 months if they had experience in the past to pull off… But it didn’t just do that I then said to make the MAC fully cut through and only forward certain IP addresses within a range downstream it one shotted it instantly also which blew me away… Then finally I thought ok let me trip it up so I said now do 50G MAC and it knew without me telling it to add another GT transceiver and it even added alignment markers and FEC to it correctly. 💀💀💀 It’s passing all the tests I have so I’m going to flash the board and see if it actually works on hardware now…

Big news for the unemployed today whereas an anonymous source tells media outlets about CIA tool "Ghost Murmur". GHOST MURMUR was allegedly used to track down the United States airmen who the Iranian government shot down. "Ghost Murmur is a classified CIA tool developed by Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works. It uses long-range quantum magnetometry to detect the faint electromagnetic signature of a human heartbeat from up to 40 miles away, then pairs that data with AI to isolate it from background noise." Do you have any idea how faint a heartbeat is? Detecting it from 40 MILES away? Using .. AI? Nice propaganda, CIA

“Ghost Murmur” is wild. The CIA seems to imply they can detect magnetic signals from a beating heart at 40 miles range. All I can do is imagine all the other applications… many things that thought they were hiding may no longer be! So what I can glean from the article: they imply they are able to detect the magnetic signals (H-field) of a heart beat from 40 miles away. That’s something normal only doable across a few meters before the signal falls below the noise floor. Reading between the lines, it seems like they are probably using a distributed array of sensors, sensor fusion (h-field, e-field, motion, thermal, etc), and then add AI to infer the below-floor signal. H-field typically drops off very rapidly as it travels from the source, where E-field (typical RF energy) is what propagates very far. It’s a bit hard to imagine that even an array of sensors, sensor fusion, and signal inference is enough to pick up H-field at 40 miles without there also being some sort of physics breakthrough as well. Even in a barren desert that has the lowest noise floor you can find. But either way, the implications seem fun to consider. SCIFs rarely shield H-field emissions. Can their emissions now be picked up at significant range? Same for air-gapped systems. Did data exfil just get a lot easier? H-field propagates through all kinds of material, including dense earth. Do previously unknown underground facilities suddenly glow? All kinds of electronics that are viewed as passive because they do not transmit RF might be much easier to detect by simply being powered on. Maybe even passive detection of drones and aircraft? I have so many questions and so many ideas.

@mattyglesias now see how the police dispose of the ATVs once impounded... they sell them... at auction.... back to the same people they took them from.

I don't actually think this is that unsolvable of a problem. What you need to do is identify the people who are driving ATVs and dirt bikes, arrest them, and punish them.
Martin Austermuhle@maustermuhle

For years there have been complaints and concerns around ATVs and dirt bikes on D.C. streets, and the city has tried lots of things: impounding them ahead of time, sharing images of their users in hopes of finding them, etc. Yet the issue persists, and now this.
