Is @Polkadot burning money faster than hackers stealing it? The latest financial report reveals chaotic and inefficient Polkadot Treasury spending, highlighting the urgent need for accountability？ If the Polkadot Treasury continues to be drained in this questionable manner, the next thing in question might be Polkadot's future？ $87M spent in six months, with only two years of budget left, what's next for Polkadot? Polkadot's chaotic finances: $87M spent in six months, running a deficit？ Polkadot's H1 financial report sparks controversy: $87M in expenses with nearly half on marketing, and only $1.1M in revenue？ Today, Polkadot’s Treasury report went viral in the Chinese community, with headlines from various Chinese media, gaining significant exposure and attention (I find it somewhat ironic)... Out of the $87M, $37M was spent on "outreach." As a DV, PolkaWorld voted NAY on most of the so-called exposure-boosting proposals during the first half of the year. We don’t believe that exposure is what Polkadot needs most at this stage, we should not spend money on ads that do not convert. Any advertisement should be product-based, otherwise, it is ineffective exposure and wasteful spending. Why does a top 20 market cap project need exposure the most? Why is no one focusing on retaining our current users/market? Current ads and exposure yield almost zero conversions. I agree with @alice_und_bob's suggestion in the Treasury report that future effective deployment of Treasury capital should be through creating departments represented by bounties and collectives. This is a great way to bring more experts into the Polkadot community. But there's still a fundamental issue unsolved: how do we combat whale dominance? Especially when their interests conflict with the broader community? If a collective of experts is formed and whales overwhelmingly oppose, what can we do? Why can a proposal worth millions with no detailed, transparent budget and financial report pass despite strong community opposition? Yet a proposal asking for tens of thousands, beneficial to the community, faces millions of opposition? How many dramatic proposals have passed in the past six months? Of course, we talk about decentralization and democracy here. The only good thing these dramatic proposals brought is that more people are paying attention to Polkadot's governance and Treasury spending. This indeed achieved great results in the past six months, with more people participating in OpenGov, and more diverse voices. If democracy is about inspiring diverse voices, OpenGov has achieved this! But amplifying the smaller voices? I think these voices are still suppressed by the whales. What the Polkadot community needs most now: 1. Empower teams that have already built great products, provide liquidity incentives to attract users to these fantastic products. 2. Continuously nurture and discover new teams, new products, and new applications. 3. Only a user-friendly unicorn application can attract a large number of users to the Polkadot ecosystem and keep them there. We call on all DOT holders: Polkadot should no longer support more exposure proposals, including any sports event collaborations/sponsorships, advertising placements, or even concert sponsorships?? Collaborations with KOLs?? This is meaningless! Let's focus on how to cultivate strong ecosystem applications and spend money on promoting these products! @Polkadot community is currently experiencing a balanced conflict managed by sensible, moderate governance. But I believe that conflict can promote community growth!

It's insane to me how much money the Polkadot treasury is wasting on misplaced marketing. Did we learn nothing from FTX and crypto.com? Blockchains like optimism, arbitrum are giving hundreds of millions of dollars to developers and builders. Bearish.
