Tucked away on the ground floor of a terraced house in Dundas Street in Edinburgh lies a small museum representing the long and largely unheard story of the resilience of the Palestinian people 👇

This research by Queen Mary University of London should be a wake up call for the UK government and judicial institutions: 286 political prisoners in Britain, held in relation to their activism for Palestinian rights or against fossil fuel. Prison sentences for acts of direct action or civil disobedience (which were once rare) are now being imposed with increasing length and frequency. In Great Britain. theguardian.com/law/2026/may/2…

I finished @weizman_eyal's Ungrounding last night and it has left me overwhelmed & speechless. I'll have a lot more to say about it but suffice it to say for now that, while some extraordinary books have been written about Gaza, this one for me is the most important. Here's why:

If the exchanges between Peter Mandelson and government ministers are "embarrassing" and expose their "cosy relationship", imagine the incredible levels of obsequiousness and cringe that would be revealed if his exchanges with lobby journalists were made public...
The i Paper@theipaper

An “embarrassing” tranche of messages set to be released will expose the “cosy relationship” between Government ministers and disgraced peer Lord Peter Mandelson Read more: trib.al/srQNtfa

I’ve written for @guardian on how the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and a forecast strong El Niño risk a major global food crisis - and why a new approach is needed to how Britain runs its own, exposed, food system (link below)

A number of times I've said that if I thought this site was going to endure much longer I would be minded to start an account purely to cite tweets and articles with needlessly anonymous "quotes". It's poisoning our journalism and politics. x.com/OborneTweets/s…
Peter Oborne@OborneTweets

The number of anonymous quotes that appear in political stories has risen to a near industrial scale. What's going on? It's a subject that many in the Westminster media would much rather avoid. I examine the problem in my new column for Byline Times: open.substack.com/pub/bylinetime…

The Burnham problem is not that he is cleaving to govt orthodoxy, but that people imagined he was leftwing because of his man-of-the-people vibe. It's like the centrists who assumed Starmer must be a competent manager because he wore a suit. averypublicsociologist.blogspot.com/2026/05/the-ro…

@Steven_Swinford @daisyeastlake The same London where Boris Johnson handed his lover £126,000 of public money in the form of grants for her technology business and event sponsorship and took her to three public funded foreign trade missions, and still became prime minister, and is currently walking free?

This looks huge - the hukou internal registration system had created two tiers of access to social insurance, with c.350m migrant workers essentially excluded. Scrapping it universalises provision (and should be an sig boost to domestic spending, a major economic rebalancing act)
