Polymarket is facing a massive dilemma. There are more and more complaints about bugs, performance, and other things that are unacceptable for any serious financial infrastructure. The fundamental issue is the following: Building an engaging retail frontend and building a performant exchange are two fundamentally different things. There is a reason that Robinhood and the NYSE are two different companies. The only place where having the platform and the interface merged into one are crypto exchanges - usually not really the pinnacle of UX, as we all know. Polymarket is trying to merge what isn’t supposed to be merged: 1. Sportsbook-like gamification and retail UX on one side (e.g. the new “one tap trading” feature) 2. Serious financial infrastructure akin to the NYSE on the other side Obviously, it currently isn’t working. If Polymarket is forced to pick in the future, they obviously would go for NYSE over sportsbook, and leave the frontend UX to other players who can offer a tailored experience to their user base. Specialized companies that offer: - Retail consumer apps, maybe split by jurisdiction or market types (e.g. politics only, with built-in newsfeeds) - Pro terminals for various types of traders This is what works in all asset classes and seems like a natural equilibrium.
