The 'Life in the UK' test needs an upgrade. Studying for it now for ILR, but the questions are like "Who won this Cricket match in 1928"? Who cares? Instead, should ask: Rank the following grocery stores by poshness, or Rank the following lettings/estate agents by sketchiness.

@FischerKing64 For every person getting things done, there were 6-10 people just hanging out. Not a lot of incentive to work hard, and it could be frustrating at times. Still, he fired a lot of good people doing really cool projects which were stupidly close to launching.

Someone should write a business/comedy book about what the 80-90% of Twitter employees were doing all day before Musk fired them. I don’t just mean the people censoring content. But just all of them, because it must have amounted to hanging out more or less.

Very interesting, seems to contradict the popular conception that youtube is the most "rabbit-hole" radicalizing platform Users apparently exercise a lot of individual choice, and are not simply shepherded by "the algorithm"
Manoel@manoelribeiro

Is the YouTube algorithm radicalizing us? Our new PNAS paper says: probably not! But why should you trust this paper rather than other papers or reports saying otherwise? Because we came up with a way to disentangle the causal effect of the algorithm. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

@ChaseSupport Sure. The rep I spoke with yesterday was helpful and lifted the block. For reasons(?), Chase reinstated the block 5 mins after that and now it's unliftable without me giving the info in the blocked account. I've lost hours of my time on this. You've lost me as a customer.

Even if the toxins in American food make us way more unhealthy than Europeans what am I supposed to do about that? Move to Europe? Kill myself?

@statsepi This is the real reason I changed my career- got real tired of being asked to run stats for studies with tiny little sample sizes that we all knew were completely useless. Nonparametric methods will only get you so far.

Any good vegetarian-friendly restaurants near Tufnell Park tube station? I'm there from time to time for meetings. I already know about Ethiopian places - Engocha, Lalibela, Queen of Sheba. Such a shame Ceremony closed (a long time back) - I still miss it.

Why does @Google limit data storage on Gmail while simultaneously flooding us with promo/ad emails, which also count against our storage allowance? They profit from those ads and profit from forcing us to pay for extra storage to store those ads.

@minjinlee11 I think a good collection of short stories has: a mix of open ended and complete stories, varying emotions from story to story, and each has a sense of poetry and economy with language.

@emilynussbaum It was a weird time. Netflix mailed us DVDs, Jon Stewart was god, online message boards / forums ruled, 'Flight of the Conchords' was cool, and fashion had a mini-70s revival.

"young people can't buy homes because they'd rather buy big fancy TVs" I am begging older generations to understand that televisions have gone from "a thing that costs 4 months' salary" to "a thing you get for free when your roommate moves and can't be bothered to take it"
