Britney reportedly took inspiration for 'In The Zone' cut, "Don't Hang Up," from her fling with Colin Farrell. The song's co-writer, Joshua Schwartz, gives fans context behind the fan fav: "I think that song is about phone s**. She was dating Justin at the time, but they broke up as we delved further into the album," Schwartz says in a new interview on the @doll_podcastpodcast. After the breakup, she went on a dating spree and started seeing Colin Farrell. I remember being there for all that. I was in LA when she informed me about her date with him. I recall saying, 'I don’t know who that is.' She replied, 'Minority Report, have you seen it? Why don’t you watch it tonight?' And I watched it and thought, 'Oh, he's cute, good luck.' A long emosh post that probably no-one will see! 😂 So, a few million years ago I had a record deal. I was signed to Mercury/Universal Records. I was about to release my album and it was pulled. I was gutted and vowed to one day make sure I put it out there. I gave up music soon after. Nearly twenty years have passed. Eek! Anyways, I have been following @raye (total legend) on TikTok and felt that familiar flash of frustration when she first shared her story. Not only had this happened to me too, but it had happened to me earlier when I was signed to Warner Records. I walked away, feeling like an also-ran. Put simply, the label just didn't know what to do with me. But a few weeks ago, someone got in touch asking if I could put my stuff on Spotify and I thought, why the feck not. I have nothing to lose, no official release and I did the artwork in two minutes. Myself. I am not expecting anything from this other than to let the music be heard. Twenty years later. I will be putting in on my TikToks and just reminiscing about those times. I am not really a singer anymore. I'm not really a musician either but I listen back and it thrills me. I've also been watching @daisyjonesand6 non stop and remembering playing at SXSW and V Fest. Thems were the days. This track, 'Cocoon' was so personal to me and I wrote it whilst having a breakdown in Antigua. I hope you like it. I wrote and produced it myself. I think I'm cool to put it out there now as I am no longer under contract but if not, fuck it. And yeah, probably no-one will see this, but that's cool. Thank you for the music. x
