Follow @PBOTinfo for the latest information on road closures. Please obey road-closed signs while crews work to reopen streets. Downspouts should not allow roof runoff to drain or pool at the base of a building. Instead, use a downspout elbow and extension to direct the water away from a basement or foundation. Water should safely discharge at least 6 feet from a structure’s basement, and at least 2 feet from a structure’s crawl space or slab foundation. Don’t flood your neighbor’s property. The end of your downspout extension must be at least 5 feet from your neighbor’s property line, 10 feet away from structures or buildings on any adjacent property, and at least 3 feet from the public sidewalk. You may need more room if your yard slopes towards your neighbor or the sidewalk. Visit the city’s website for more information to help you navigate atmospheric river conditions. Portland.gov/Weather

An atmospheric river will be with us through Friday. Flooding of small creeks, streams, and low-lying areas are possible. Prepare by reviewing your household emergency plan and making sure essential items, such as medications, warm clothing, and flashlights are easy to access. In addition, take steps to steps to protect your property. Watch for early warning signs of landslides around your home, including changes in surface drainage, bulging or tilting retaining walls, cracks in soil, sidewalks or foundations, bent trees, broken water or sewer lines, and stretched or leaning utility lines. If you see signs of a landslide that threaten public safety, evacuate immediately, then call 9-1-1. For non-emergency landslides blocking streets or sidewalks that are not an immediate threat to public safety, report by calling 3-1-1. Falling trees may bring down power lines. Always treat downed lines as live with electricity and dangerous. If you spot a downed line, please call 9-1-1 to report it. Report tree emergencies on City property, including public streets and roads, by calling @PortlandParks Urban Forestry at (503) 823-TREE (8733) and press 1. For non-emergency tree issues, email Trees@PortlandOregon.gov. Portland.gov/Weather

A temporary exemption of system development charges for new housing units, beginning last August, is helping permits get issued and construction started. Portland Permitting & Development released its first report on Feb. 27 describing the early results of a new financial incentive, enacted last summer, intended to promote the creation of 5,000 new housing units over three years. The report, which covers the first five months of this program, indicates that it is achieving some success in bringing new projects farther into the development process. As of Jan. 15, the projects participating in this program represent 1,720 units, which is 34.4% of the 5,000-unit goal. While some of these projects are in earlier stages and will need to do more work before they can have their system development charges (SDCs) permanently exempted, this early data indicates positive momentum for the program. Visit the city’s website to learn more about the new housing construction incentives. portland.gov/ppd/news/2026/… #Portland #Permits #Housing #Construction

Happy Women’s History Month! The City of Portland is stronger because of the women who are the heart and soul of our workforce. During Women's History Month, we recognize the contributions and talents of the women who dedicate themselves to making Portland a better place. Today we’re celebrating women who choose careers in the trades and public safety — breaking stereotypes and inspiring the next generation. In 2016, a four-year-old girl wanted to be a police officer for Halloween. But the costume showed a boy on the label. “Does that mean I can’t wear it?” She asked her mother. In response, the Portland Police Bureau held an event called “Girl Cops Are Awesome!” to recruit women officers. Since then, it’s become the annual Women in Public Safety fair. Check it out on March 7. Portland.gov/Police/Events/… Portland, and the region, have many trailblazing women who have made their mark in the trades. Meet some of them on May 15 at the Oregon Tradeswomen Career Fair. Oregontradeswomen.org/fair These women make Portland work for Portlanders. We celebrate, from left to right: Katia Minor, Firefighter with Portland Fire & Rescue; Amanda Westervelt, Interim Operations Manager with Portland Bureau of Emergency Management; Leigh Overton, Automotive Equipment Operator, Night Street Cleaning with Portland Bureau of Transportation; Jessie Lee, Horticulturalist with Portland Parks & Recreation; Caitlyn Olds, Carpenter with Portland Parks & Recreation; Antonea Carson, Police Officer with Portland Police Bureau; Allyson Leffel, Utility Worker II, Sewer Repair with Portland Bureau of Transportation. #Portland #WomensHistoryMonth
