The Senate chooses to have dysfunctional rules. And a majority of Senators could impose sensible rules (majority rule) if it wanted to.
The issue is Senators like the dysfunction.

One more thing senators get wrong: they treat parliamentarian guidance as binding Senate precedent. It isn't. The parliamentarian advises. The presiding officer decides. The full Senate has the final word on appeal. Deferring by default is a choice, not a requirement.

The notion that the best—or only—way to vote is whatever they did in 1812 is just stupid and has nothing to do with anything but reducing voter turnout. Mail in voting is so secure and convenient it’s how Trump just voted.

I experienced sex segregated education and I'm completely opposed to it. My school didn't empower girls, it made the straight ones obsessed with boys and anyone suspected of being a lesbian was mercilessly bullied.
University was presented as a place to find a husband.
