Yesterday, I was honoured to officiate the first MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) facility in Malaysia by Singapore Airlines Engineering Company (SIAEC). Base Maintenance Malaysia will provide MRO services for airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Air India and other regional airlines. I had the opportunity to visit the entire facility and observe our young professionals at work. This profession demands highly skilled talent and the highest standards to ensure aircraft safety and reliability. The fact that SIAEC chose Malaysia as its third MRO hub (after Singapore and the Philippines) is a strong testament to the capabilities and quality of Malaysian engineering talent. Malaysia is fast emerging as a regional aerospace MRO centre. Today, the aerospace MRO sector already employs more than 12,000 workers, while the broader aerospace industry has grown rapidly to reach RM32 billion across manufacturing, components and MRO activities. Through the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint, we aim to achieve RM55 billion by 2030, and we are on the right trajectory to reach this target. Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry calls upon young Malaysians who are interested in the aerospace industry to pursue careers in this promising and high-value sector 💪🏻
