At the same time these places were being built in LA. Richard Neutra designed the Lovell House in Los Feliz, which is an extreme departure from the status quo of the era. It’s strange to consider that the facets of modern design were already readily present in the 1920s.

The surviving movie palaces of Los Angeles are incredible. The fact they built movie theaters like this a century ago is astounding.

it's rly cool to see ppl resonating w this bc i've always thought maps are more intuitive to explore complex ideas + large amounts of information it's more intuitive for users to choose their own paths + explore freely i think the infinite canvas is a good start, but i think we can push it more
gabbi@gabbisoong

we should show more maps behind the worlds we build!!

the two faces of tech are Steve Jobism and Peter Thielism. tech has reached peak Thielism and will start swinging back toward Jobism, 1970s counterculture, DIY/hacker culture, hippie and humanist ideals, simplicity, creativity, beauty

I think a lot of minimalist and mid-century modern stuff does look really good but that it's correct atmosphere is corporate environments Most of the trends I dislike aesthetically are the corporatization of home environments (simple example, Keurig machine aesthetics)

A good friend of mine is co-organising a festival I haven't seen before. It's called Genesis, in Cidadelhe, Portugal. April 30 to May 3. Mornings you restore the land. Plant trees, move rocks, rebuild water cycles. Afternoons are workshops on regeneration. Evenings, music and dancing. The idea is that a festival can actually leave a place better than it found it. Most "regenerative" events are either too niche or too preachy. This one's trying to make it fun. Groovy techno and traditional Portuguese music. Off-grid and Real community. I'm thinking of going and see their website in next comment in case anyone else would like to join too.
