@ChrisDHWaugh @PercyArmsDisco @GeorgeCaulkin I disagree with that. We *could* have flat refused the Isak sale - see Maranakis with MGW. I’d argue we’d not have been any worse off. Isak wouldn’t have stayed on strike all season - there’s no real precedent in football history for that. He’d have played & we’d be better for it

@PercyArmsDisco @GeorgeCaulkin You're right about that & I do think the club needs to try & work out what their place is in the market. A club with their stated aspirations can't follow the Brighton or Brentford models, but nor on the evidence of last summer can they just hold on to whoever they want.

@DominicMcGregor The gov budget will, likely, raise at a similar growth rate. If it doesn’t, hard Q’s need to be had on what else the gov(‘s) are spending money on. Removing a basic allowance from pensioners who’ve paid into the system for 45yrs+ is not an item that should be targeting 1st.

I’m 32 years old and I want to change the state pension. With the triple lock, based on historical growth (4.5%) when I reach my pension age. The state pension will be £30,100 a year. This would account for £512bn a year. The current government budget is 1.2Trn. This would be 3x the current NHS budget. The triple lock is unsustainable. Now the debate, no one is saying that pensioners shouldn’t recieve support. That goes without saying. But there shouldn’t be a non-means tested, non contribution based pension which gives everyone blanket support. Especially when you consider 1 in 4 of over 60 years are asset millionaires. My view is, we need to have a means tested only state pension. Which is reassessed every 3 years. There is no “pot” people pay into, national insurance is just a tax - there is no ring fenced fund for a state pension. It comes directly from taxation ever annum. Without changes like this, young people will suffer while older people - who receive their pension and political protection because they actively vote - will continue to have a glorious quality of life.
Good Morning Britain@GMB

More than 12 million pensioners will see their state pension rise 4.8% today under the triple lock. But the government has been accused of doing too little for working-age households so is it time to scrap the triple lock?

@CoachMeron Flip side, your revenue increases substantially for UCL. We’ve earned £55m from this season. Added to our non-UCL £400m revenue, that’s an extra 13.5% before any extra sponsorship related inflation. That covers wage increases. 70% SCR helps keep competitiveness with the rest.

Am I being stupid here or is it crazy that the SCR limit is 85% for Premier League clubs…but if they get into Europe they suddenly have to reduce it to 70%? What kind of madness is this?

🤓£700m even including the remaining c£65m of Club World Cup revenue looks impossible: Matchday: £87m in 24/25 ➡️ £100m in 25/26 Broadcast: £203m in 24/25 ➡️ £300-310m in 25/26 (depending on finishing PL and inc CWC "exceptional") Commercial: £201m in 24/25 ➡️ <£240m in 25/26 TOTAL: £491m in 24/25➡️ <£650m in 25/26 Plus highly misleading to imply that CWC is recurring. CL qualification failure would drag 26/27 back to the <£550m level. Treat with caution.
Ben Jacobs@JacobsBen

Chelsea confirm the biggest pre-tax loss in Premier League history. The club's £262m deficit for 2024/25 is over £65m more than Manchester City declared (£194.5m) in 2011. This compares to a profit of £128.4m for Chelsea in 2023/24. In summer 2025, Chelsea had the highest player sales in Premier League history and that came with significant agent fees also contributing to costs. Yet the agent fees Chelsea pay as a percentage of any transaction are understood to be at approximately the Premier League average. Chelsea brought in £490.9m in revenue, the second-highest total in their history. This was largely due to a top-four finish, winning the #UECL and their participation and victory at the Club World Cup. Understand revenue for 25/26 is projected to increase to approximately £700m. This would mean a total revenue increase of around 50% since Clearlake-Boehly took charge. Chelsea Women posted an overall loss of £17.1m and generated revenues totalling £21.3m. Matchday revenues increased to a record £3.0m, with the average league attendance exceeding 10,000 per match. Chelsea expect to remain compliant with all regulatory requirements.

Sandro Tonali has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for the last three years. Just because he's not the midfielder you might want, doesn't make him a bad signing. If Manchester United sign the right combination of CM's, we're on. We'd be lucky to have him.

Liverpool could sign two wingers this summer. On the right, finding a Mo Salah successor is something #LFC have been planning for long before negotiating an exit package allowing the Egyptian to leave on a free. New left-winger on the club's radar since Luis Diaz departed for Bayern. Leipzig's Yan Diomande is one target, and a player high in Manchester United and Bayern's thinking as well. Leipzig value the winger at €100m, but suitors feel that price will drop this summer. Appreciation for Michael Olise but Bayern are not planning a sale. PSG also working on extending Bradley Barcola and in no mood to entertain offers. Same for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has been linked with Arsenal. Liverpool have historical interest in Anthony Gordon having almost signed him in summer 2024. Sources downplay interest in Francisco Conceição despite reports. A more central creative attacker could also be considered, especially if capable of operating in wide areas as well. Liverpool are one of the clubs who appreciate Morgan Rodgers, with an exit possible this summer despite an extension last year.🔴

@Giniesta10 100%. My point was more if we had the technicality to control the football, we could still play our high press style aggressively, but we could use our energy more conservatively across more fixtures.

@Potts_131 Our style of play is more taxing on the player's body, it's not sustainable to play like that without at least 5 days of recovery time. That's part of the reasons to why we only seem to play with intensity in Spurts, and then drop into the 451 midblock to preserve energy

Stats backs the eye-test #NUFC are the most physically intense team in the PL without the ball. This way of playing with constant max sprints is not sustainable with ~60 games per season That is why they drop into the passive 451 shape when taking the lead, to preserve energy
Andy Forrester@AndyForrester1

#NUFC rank 15th in the league for % time spent in build up. The top teams spend 4.5 mins more per game in buildup IMO they are far too vertical with the ball to be sustainable, when they are also 1st for % sprinting out possession AND juggling multiple comps...

@AntonioMango4 And that gives the picture for the year it’s being measured - and a more reflective picture of under/over performance. Have wages as a cumulative over a 15yr period, couple the net transfer spend & have starting position squad value-adjusted & then the real picture is shown

A lot of comments on this which are fair but no matter what i post here, i can't win. If i post 'total spend' people would ask for net spend, if i post 'wages' people would ask for how much has each club spent. I had to pick one. Here's are the wages if you're interested ....

Brighton are the only Premier League side with a POSITIVE Net Spend over the Past 5 Years. Interesting list to say the least .... Maybe City don't spend the most?! Newcastle spending more than Liverpool, City & many others. Aston Villa and Unai Emery massive credit.

Newcastle offered more money to Bryan Mbeumo than Manchester United, he chose MUFC & took less to go. Newcastle offered more money to Benjamin Sesko than Manchester United, he chose MUFC & took less to go. This is public information. It is not a conspiracy, you're a small club.

People want to blame Howe more than PSR because it’s more fashionable. Had Howe been able to lure his first choice targets with the wages 15th placed Man Utd and other teams were able to do, we wouldn’t be in this position. The PL made these rules to stifle us - blame them more.

@AntonioMango4 It’s either disingenuous or incredibly short sighted to only consider transfer net spend over a given period Expand the time period to e.g. 15 years? Different answer Include wages, agent fees & bonuses? Different answer Adjust for squad value at a given time. Different answer

@YDavid_13 @AdamJoseph It’s not a nonsense take whatsoever. My point isn’t who’s the most appealing club to play for My point is who actually offered the greater salary Newcastle would have offered ~£175k pw with UCL football Next season, he’ll be earning more than that at Man Utd Case closed

@Potts_131 @AdamJoseph Nonsense take. No one had United even in the top 10 so UCL especially with Amorim was in no way guaranteed You’re just combining semantics and copium. If he wanted Newcastle he would have joined. The project didn’t appeal to him and I don’t blame him

@YDavid_13 @AdamJoseph Yes - and we had UCL when offering a contract last season. So if Newcastle offered eg £175k per week with UCL, and Man Utd offered £160k per week with a 25% uplift if they achieved UCL, then technically Man Utd offered Sesko a better contract all things being equal…

@mhardysport This is a clear example why I bang on about having CB’s that can use the football well. I like Burn, he’s done magnificent & is clearly a great squad player to have in the dressing room. But if you choose him to start over Botman / Thiaw, you lower your team’s technical potential

This highlights Gordon's frustrations very well. Score 1-1. No pressure on Burn. Sunderland happy to sit back. Willock is the free man with a simple pass. Instead Burn wellies it straight to O'Nien (not Osula) with Alderete covering.
Jake@Jake_armstrong9

x.com/Burnerrrrr4191… Now as the half went on Sunderland became more and more passive OOP with the aim being to catch us on the counter as our rest defence weakens while we chase a goal. This example goes straight back to Gordon’s quote and where his frustration will be. This a second example I’ve shown in this thread of us failing to find the free man. This is poor from Burn. He had a few extra yards to bring that ball forward or I think that pass into Willock is more than on but instead he goes over the top to Osula in a 2v1 deficit? Same with Elanga he failed to spot the free man and we couldn’t hurt Sunderland defensively. 10/ #NUFC
