Currently reading through a family discipleship book with my church and within a few pages I can tell the author is a Calvinist… Little things I would have overlooked in the past leap out at me now.

@kaley_whitton @wichman_matthew The 5 solas are the Temu rip off version of the Lutheran 3 solas. Lutherans are quite distinct from, and have long been bitterly opposed to calvinist and reformed doctrines, especially the limited atonement and double predestination. We also strongly oppose arminians.

@PouncedeLeon2 @wichman_matthew Correct me if I'm wrong, but Lutherans hold to all 5 solas? How do Lutherans view Augustine? Or what are your views about Original Sin? PSA?

You don't know how badly I wanted the Book of Mormon to be true. I was taught how to read out of its pages. I admired Nephi, Captain Moroni and the last Nephite; Moroni. I hoped to one day be able to walk where they walked, and to see what they saw and explore the Nephite ancient ruins. Nothing had been found yet? No problem; there were unexplored jungles in Mesoamerica and interesting oral legends about a prophet who visited Peru. Maybe the Book of Mormon lands were actually found in North America and it was a grand conspiracy by the Smithsonian institute to hide the evidence for the true church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All those Anti-Mormon liars who said the Book of Mormon was written by Joseph or Sidney Rigdon? They didn't have a witness of the Spirit like I had, I had read it and knew it to be true. Didn't I? Was I sure I wasn't just convincing myself it was? Doubt your doubts. There was no way! It had to be true! But the more I looked, the less I found. Where were the Nephite other plates? Where was Zarahemla? Maybe it was the Mormon church that was hiding something and not the Smithsonian. Their official position is none. Nothing. They won't comment on where the Book of Mormon took place, nor which ruins correspond with the Nephite cities. No artifacts have ever been found, no traces of Israelite DNA, no semitic roots in the languages of the Americas, no Hebrew customs that have survived. Nothing. No Book of Mormon evidence and no Book of Mormon peoples. It turns out the Book of Mormon is a LIE.

@wichman_matthew You can't unsee it. There is no corner of protestantism that this infectious theology hasn't touched.

Highest praise for the LCMS from "The Christian Century" magazine, published 1926: "The Missouri Lutheran church has its strength in the middle west...It represents a distinctly American development in Lutheranism for which there is practically no parallel in Europe. It has isolated itself from other churches with an effectiveness which may be equaled by the southern Baptists but is not surpassed by any other body. Its discipline is iron, and it enforces conformity to a theology that can best be described as an ossified seventeenth century orthodoxy. Its conception of salvation is highly magical, and the instruments of redemption are the sacraments and pure doctrine." I'm already proud of my church's history. You don't have to sell me on it!

Theologians--hate to interrupt your comfortable gig arguing with each other about 16th century theological controversies but the human race is about to be displaced by soulless machines. We could use your help over here.

🚨 I just learned about a concept, I can't stop thinking about. The Four Burner Theory. It destroyed Elon Musk's first marriage. It explains why Bezos is jacked but divorced. And why Zuckerberg has no real friends. Once you understand it, your life will never be same:🧵

@SenorVito9 This really is a low tier argument. The Quran speaks of Christ too. The books of the Valentinians and the Gnostics speak of Christ. The antichrist speaks of Christ. The false christs claim to BE christ.

Catholics: We need to make Sola Scriptura a trendy topic in Christianity. Most Protestants believe in it without realizing it. All we need to do is have the conversation. Church unity becomes realistic once Sola Scriptura is debunked!

@MichaelsRosary @puHHembIDSepoH @JoshuaTCharles I have no problem with lent and its traditions. My problem is the claim that the apostles secretly taught it, then 250 years later, after demonstrably not doing it in this way, the church began to do what they always had held was an apostolic command? It's silly and dishonest.

The observance of Lent is an example of a binding apostolic tradition that is not explicitly contained in Scripture.

@JoshuaTCharles See, this is why I asked you first whether the claim was that the Apostles taught an observance of the 40 days of lent. You said it was, now you change the definition.

@PouncedeLeon2 No it isn’t. As many Fathers say, including St. Augustine, customs universally observed throughout the Church may be fairly considered to have been Apostolic.
