I had one respected, long time member of the NBA media text me on Kenny Atkinson: “He’s just not a championship coach” I had a former Cavs player tell me this team has a clear “Lack of effort and grit and want” CJ Miles posted in plain sight on X: “I don’t like Cleveland Cavs energy .. it’s weird to me …” So no, I don’t think the Cavs win on Sunday. I’m a Cavs fan and I hope I’m wrong, but the Raptors are clearly the better team. This has been the least fun Cleveland sports Playoff team of my life. Darko runs circles around Kenny. Kenny’s lineup change from Wade to Strus was dumb enough, but the rotations, lineups, looseness with the challenges, plays drawn up — he’s just out there guessing. Someone with confident command — particularly late in games — would be ideal. Because I’d imagine a series loss here costs him his job. Scottie is far and away the best player in the series, draping Don and doing whatever he wants on offense. Evan’s made a leap, but it’s probably too late. Jaylon’s lack of minutes is a total whiff. Keon’s lack of minutes is probably a whiff. The refs have not been great, sure, but this is all mostly on the Cavs. And credit to the Raptors, a team that won’t just be a problem in the future but is clearly one right now. They could win the East. Only bits of optimism I can find: 1) in the postgame presser it sounded like Kenny admitted he’ll go back to Wade starting. 2) Twice before an eventual champion was taken to 7 games in Round 1: the 2014 Spurs, the 2008 Celtics. Raptors by 25 on Sunday.

Nick Saban to @finebaum calls for an "equilibrium" among CFB teams' spending: "One team shouldn't have a $40 million roster and another team have a $5 million roster, and they're out there playing each other. There should be some kind of -- every league, NFL, basketball, hockey -- they all have a salary cap or something that creates parity in the league so everybody has an equal opportunity to win." It should be noted that pro sports' salary caps are part of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) between players' unions and the leagues, which if adopted in college sports would involve players as employees -- something the NCAA and conferences have resisted.

The Kansas City Chiefs were viewed as a cursed franchise before Patrick Mahomes arrived… and people tend to forget that 👀 This was a franchise that went 50 years without a Super Bowl appearance 😱 In that entire stretch, they made only one AFC Championship Game.. In the 24 seasons before Mahomes took over, the Chiefs played in 11 playoff games… and lost 10 of them 😳 They never even made it past the Divisional Round. The narrative around Andy Reid at the time? Great regular season coach… but inconsistent in the playoffs. A “choker.” There were multiple early exits at home for Reid in KC and Philly, often as heavy favorites 🏟️📉 And no matter how good the team looked during the season, there was always that feeling that things would fall apart when it mattered most because Reid couldn’t get over the hump… On top of that, the defense was a major issue. When Mahomes was drafted, it was one of the worst units in the league, and it arguably cost the team a Super Bowl in 2018 😬 And yet… Because Mahomes has been unbelievably dominant, people now try to rewrite history and say he landed in one of the best situations ever 😅 If that were true, then explain this: Before Mahomes became the starter, the Chiefs were 0–2 in the playoffs with both Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce on the field. Same core pieces. Completely different results. Mahomes didn’t step into a perfect situation… He’s the reason it became one 🐐🔥
