lol it's true. And none of this is surprising. Has happened to many industries before. When you grow with massive debt, it always happens. At some point, the debt needs to be paid down. The same Wall Street that wants to see you chase massive growth (with debt) then wants to see you pay it down. Basic college economics stuff.

What did it look like before 2015? Yes there's been a big falloff in jobs, but part of the story of this graph is that we were funding TV shows during the streaming boom with debt. There was always going to be a reset. We minted MANY new tv writers that were never going to find work after the streaming boom ended.

My dad grew up in the Rockaways. My mom grew up in Queens. I love this city. I hate what is happening to it. Transplants will be the death of NYC.

I made this argument a few years back - I called them the “second tier cities” - and I’m glad to see it’s reaching a wider audience These cities mostly avoid the governance problems that seem to plague the major US cities and their amenities now (largely) rival the super stars Unless you need a very specific career, you can do very well basically anywhere now in the US
