Big thank you to @vidhunnan for taking a session with the @DreamMoney_IN Design team on AI and Design Language Systems. He walked us through the systemic approach to building design systems, how to kickstart them in a growing company, and how to think AI-first > not just AI-assisted as a design team. Grateful for friends who share what they know without holding back. This was our first step into something exciting. Thanks Vidhunnan.

Every time I see an Indigo notification my heart skips a beat and not in a good way. Third flight time change in one month. I am getting this feeling now that with Indigo I don’t book a flight, I book a rough estimate. Done with this Indigo you are making loyalty really hard to justify.

Sliding from gathering to execution now and here are my top 5 learnings as a design leader: Clarity before action: Aligning vision, goals, and expectations, and then making them visible to everyone. No ambiguity. If the team doesn't know where we're headed, speed is just chaos. Team and talent: Understanding the gaps honestly. Who's here, what's missing, what needs to change. Building the right team isn't a quarter-three problem; it's a now problem. AI as a design lever: This was a priority from day one. Getting the right tools in place, running training, and, more importantly, creating a genuine need for data-driven thinking and analysis across the team. AI doesn't work as a mandate. It works when people see how it changes the quality of their own output. Culture, quietly: One thing I keep reminding myself: leaders shape culture not through what they announce, but through what they reward, what they ignore, and what they avoid confronting. Culture is built in the small, daily signals. Ruthless prioritization: Not everything that seems urgent is important. The filter I keep coming back to: high impact is non-negotiable, but pick your battles between high effort and low effort wisely. Say no often so the yeses actually matter.

Most designers are exceptional at execution. But when it's time to lead - they're completely on their own. No playbook. No community. No one who's been there. Here's what we're building to fix that 🧵 cc: @PrateekG @vidhunnan

AI made craft impossible to ignore. Now I spend more time reviewing outputs than creating them. I have to check where the inspiration came from, if it copied exact code, whether the API endpoint it suggested even exists, and if it actually understood each command I gave. The time I used to spend on foundational work and ideation is now spent on review. That’s why I feel time taken is a wrong metric to measure quality of design output. What matters is delivering strategic value and building technical literacy to make informed decisions or doing those trade-offs.

Only two Indian apps crack India's top 20 by daily active users. Indian apps hold 35 of the top 100, 123 of 300. U.S. apps lead with 44 of top 100, 74 of 300. indiadispatch.com/s/charted

Every PM can generate AI designs now. Almost nobody knows how to evaluate them. There are four layers to checking whether an AI-generated design is actually good. Most people stop at layer one. Layer 1: Visual representation. Does it look good? Is the aesthetic right for your brand? This is where 90% of people stop. They see something pretty and call it done. Layer 2: Problem solving. Does the design actually solve the user problem? Forget the tool. Show it to real users. Watch them try to use it. If they can't accomplish their goals, the design failed regardless of how polished it looks. Layer 3: Design principles. Accessibility, readability, interaction patterns. AI tools don't automatically produce accessible designs. You need to check contrast ratios, screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, touch targets. Run it through accessibility checkers. Layer 4: Implementation feasibility. Can your engineers actually build this? AI prototyping tools generate code, but that code might not match your tech stack or architecture. Review with your eng team before you commit. Pretty and shippable are different things. The gap between them is where most AI-generated designs die.

One thing experience gives you is the confidence to make decisions faster. You get the guts to make the call, own the outcome, and face whatever comes next, win or loss. No blame shifting, no second-guessing. Just you, your call, and the consequences.

Just spent 3 hours assembling an IKEA bed with an allen key and pure rage. I can type “write me a business plan” and get 10 pages instantly, but I can’t prompt “build this bed” and have it magically appear? What’s even the point of AI then. Wrong priorities, humanity.

I didn’t receive my order, so I contacted lenskart support today (Jan 30th). Their bot replied: “Your order will get delivered by Jan 28th.” This is why slapping an AI bot on your support isn’t enough. Conversational design matters. Context matters. Training matters. A bad bot is worse than no bot, it just pisses people off faster.
