First off, the problem actually stems from excessive pandering to the lowest common denominator fandom goers, not the opposite.

been thinking mildly abt how anime cons used to be for all sorts of niche anime-adjacent interests but in recent years have become spaces where the niche and obscure cannot survive. Cons aren't a place for fandoms anymore. I think that's what a lot of complaints are identifying
