Some guy with a massive platform just posted a video to his 5 million followers in which he said: “Depression is a gift from God. It’s warning you that you’ve got a bunch of potential and you’re not using it. That is why you’re depressed. You don’t need a drug, you don’t have a problem, you’re being sent a warning from God. Put down the meds, stop with the labels, get rid of the excuses, and get back to work.” In the comments he doubled down: “Depression always comes after bad people.” Within three days, the post had over 34K likes and 9K shares. Its message is absurd—and harmful. As someone who has experienced depression, I feel compelled to address this:

I'm super hesitant to write about supplements, but a broccoli shot called Nomio has been getting lots of buzz. The main claim is that it reduces lactate levels, but the underlying science (preliminary though it is) is more nuanced... and interesting. outsideonline.com/health/nutriti…

"I'd say this to any coach...If your job is your identity, you're really going to struggle." This was part of Rick Barnes’ response to being asked what advice he’d give Lady Vols’ head coach, Kim Caldwell, following the birth of her son last year. He emphasized the importance of finding a balance between coaching and parenting and offered this reminder for all coaches: "This is what we do, it can't be who you are." 🎥: @Emcochranetv

“I don’t run away from coaching…I run to coaching” Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers doesn’t shy away from his responsibilities. In fact, he broadens his agenda. He believes everyone can improve, thus he demands more from himself as a coach. The questions psychologists have when it comes to behaviour change is not so much whether change is possible - it’s how much change can be sought. In coaching speak - how much skill can someone acquire? How possible is it for someone to change their technique? How much can a player develop their perceptual abilities? How much more game intelligent can they become? Perhaps ambitious sports competitors have glass ceilings. Or perhaps those ceilings are made from solid concrete. Conversely, human beings participating in sport have no ceilings at all. It’s all conjecture (although, with age comes atrophy…that there is no doubt). But ultimately a great coach is one who says “Yep, it’s my job to be optimistic here. It’s my job to help someone be the very best they can be, and I don’t know what that is…yet!”

⁩A little gem on process (not just W vs L’s) - maintain your attention on the main thing: task execution & mastering your craft… and stay within in your own proverbial lane. 💯👇 ⁦⁦@growtheqthegrowtheq.com/a-shining-exam…

@BStulberg … and be compassionate with yourself/partner for ordering the pizza and “just” chilling on the couch. 😉

So many “influencers” and “wellness” and “happiness” gurus don’t have actual jobs, partners, or kids. They can also be very challenging to be around. Yes, strive to be healthy and excellent and all that, but sometimes the key to adult life is that you’ve just got to chill out, order a pizza, and move on.

Sometimes sources of stress are hard to eliminate (like for athletes getting ready for trials next month), so this simple EightyPercentMental model demonstrates the solution- build and use more resources, get more recovery.
