I am shocked and deeply concerned by the sudden news of the resignation of Shri C. V. Ananda Bose, the Governor of West Bengal. The reasons behind his resignation are not known to me at this moment. However, given the prevailing circumstances, I would not be surprised if the Governor has been subjected to some pressure from the Union Home Minister to serve certain political interests on the eve of the forthcoming State Assembly elections. Union Home Minister just informed me that Shri R.N. Ravi is being appointed as Governor of West Bengal. He never consulted with me as per the established convention in this regard. Such actions undermine the spirit of the Constitution of India and strike at the very foundation of our federal structure. The Centre must respect the principles of cooperative federalism and refrain from taking unilateral decisions that erode democratic conventions and the dignity of States.

I am a Muslim, I was served pork in my sandwich in Tollygunge Club by mistake, even when I had specifically ordered for chicken club sandwich. The waiter apologised. Ofcourse, as I dont consume pork, out of reflex, I felt nauseous and vomited. I accepted the waiters honest mistake. And left. Not everything needs to be politicised and communalised. No one can stop being less of their religion because of a mistake. Stop this overreacting. I am sure God is more forgiving, and will not punish us for consuming some meat, which is prohibited by mistake.

Olypub, Park Street—one of Kolkata’s most iconic restaurants—is now at the centre of a deeply disturbing controversy. A well-known Kolkata content creator ordered mutton steak. What was served? Beef steak. Even more shocking—after some time, the waiter returned and informed them that the earlier steak was beef, and then served another plate. This raises a serious and unavoidable question: Was this an accident—or a routine practice? Because such an incident does not happen in isolation. If beef can be served so casually, without confirmation, disclosure, or consent, it raises concerns that this may not be the first such case—and that serving beef to Hindu customers “by default” or “by silence” may have become a habit at Olypub. This is not about food preference. This is about religious belief, informed consent, and consumer rights. The waiter is Muslim. The owner of Olypub is Muslim. Yet no prior warning was given to a Hindu customer ordering mutton—only an afterthought disclosure. Now ask yourself: If pork were served to a Muslim customer—even once—would it be brushed aside as a “mistake”? Or would there already be outrage, FIRs, protests, and wall-to-wall media coverage? Why is Hindu faith treated with such casual disregard? This is not hate. This is a demand for equal respect. Kolkata Police must take cognizance and initiate strict legal action against the management of Olypub for food fraud and violation of religious sentiment. If investigation proves intent or repeated negligence, this restaurant must face the full legal consequences. Until accountability is fixed, Hindus have every right to boycott such establishments that show zero respect for their beliefs. Respect cannot be selective. Law cannot be optional. Silence will only encourage repetition. Is this the “new Kolkata” under Mamata Banerjee—where Hindu faith is expected to quietly adjust? Questions deserve answers. And answers must come through law.

This journey begins with Kanyashree, our globally acclaimed and awarded pioneer initiative to promote girls' education and well-being by discouraging their unhealthy early marriage. 1 crore girls over the years have been financially supported by us in this scheme to retain girls in formal educational institutions. Another related scheme, Sabooj Sathi, eases the child's mobility and movement to schools by grant of a bicycle to each student. She also gets support from schemes like Shikshashree, Aikyashree, Medhashree, Taruner Swapna, in addition to getting free textbooks, school uniform, shoes, midday meals, etc as further assistance from our government in her journey along the path of education. When the girl finally marries, she gets one-time financial assistance under our Rupashree scheme. Then, an adult senior woman is enrolled in the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, which now provides financial independence to 2.21 crore women of Bengal who get direct monthly cash transfer from state government. As the prime anchor of the household, she also gets Swasthya Sathi card, which gives her and her family assured health insurance coverage @ Rs 5 lakh per year. Today, Bengal’s daughters are excelling in every field, from the laboratories of science to the podiums of international sports. We reaffirm our pledge to provide them with an environment where they can breathe freely, learn fearlessly, and lead boldly. Jai Hind! Jai Bangla!
