I used to think that rich people did fancy things like fly private. Now I realize the richest guy I know is a plumber. A thread 👇

@Cribdilla My house is my biggest cash equity investment, biggest source of my equity, and biggest asset. The American Dream is not dead and will carry most people through retirement and beyond while the suckers keep renting.

Re-reading Barbarians at the Gate, I am reminded that the best business books are great because they are, ultimately, profiles in human psychology What other books would you put in the pantheon of business writing?

Bernard Arnault became the richest man on Earth by buying luxury clothing companies. I became the wealthiest man on Earth (on a divorce-adjusted basis) by letting my ex wives buy luxury clothing with their alimony. We are not the same.

I went to Tufts, a school that many would kill to attend, and learned from some of the best in the world. But I didn't make a dime until I picked up a broom and started sweeping. Built my own startup. And I swept those profits right into real estate.

This poster was very popular when I was a kid. First saw it when I was about 11 years old, and it had a major impact on me at that point in my life, sending a clear message connecting education with success. I’m sure it did the same for many others.

@realEstateTrent This is a great message. Too many people decry higher ed these days. The reality is, if you want those cars, you need that degree.

Free #sweaty business idea: Pick up dirty facemasks off the ground Wash them by hand Sell them as "like new" Your margins are virtually infinite as the inventory is free. There are so many ways to make money in the 21st century. No excuses.

Friend of mine from college has a young ecommerce biz pulling in $40k/yr and growing. His Stanford professor told him keep growing it. I told him, FULL STOP: DROP the tech dreams, PICK up a shovel, and start a landscaping business. You'll never make it chasing online wealth!
