See the recent report I wrote for @suttontrust on how the last few decades of education reform have seen improved outcomes, particularly in maths. (But that we're struggling much more with pastoral support and the disadvantage gap) suttontrust.com/our-research/l…

A beautiful and important speech. Thank you @bphillipsonMP. As someone who moved to a new culture, far away from home, I really appreciate this message of a country that is inclusive and global in outlook. gov.uk/government/spe…

STRB 5.5% award a major surprise (assuming true) as last govt went so hard on affordability. Can't remember pay review bodies diverging so sharply from govt steers on affordability. This is more difficult for new govt than is being recognised. 1/n

Most of the DfE's spending review wiggle room just disappeared. Yikes.

That the new govt haven't been able to take a quick decision on teacher pay essentially confirms that the proposed award from pay review body is higher than schools are funded for. So they will need to find hundreds of millions from somewhere. Or push the cost on to schools.

The new education secretary @bphillipsonMP did her first live broadcast today⬇️ 1) No decision on next year’s teacher pay this week 2) Delay to indicative school and high needs NFF allocations for 2025-26 to usual time scales tes.com/magazine/news/…

Teacher trainee recruitment in England this year will be substantially below target for the third year running, and for 11th time in the last 12 years Recruitment is a key part (not only - retention is vital) of this crisis because it's still 20% lower than before the pandemic

The best recruitment strategy is a strong retention strategy. We’ll support teachers to improve and new heads to succeed. We’ll restore the prestige and status of teaching. Teaching will be a profession of which to be proud once more. tes.com/magazine/news/…

On policy priorities for a new government, @CSTvoice has said that trust is integral to the functioning of society. We said the next government should reset its relationship with public services & build a new settlement base on accountability with trust. tinyurl.com/5n7bmse4

Whoever forms the next government, must make education a national priority & deliver a serious programme of government that tackles the big challenges, faced by children, families & schools. I'm encouraged by what's in this manifesto & the pledges made by @bphillipsonMP & team.
Bridget Phillipson@bphillipsonMP

Education is the single greatest way we build the better future our children deserve. And the ambition our young people have must be matched from government. Today Labour sets out how we will rise to that challenge: a thread 🧵 labour.org.uk/change/

We had a lovely Saturday morning here at St Sidwell’s welcoming some of our new Reception children and families. It was a joy watching them practise their mark making skills and getting used to their new school ready for September. #flourishing #powerofus #stchristopherstrust
