I’ve spent decades at the chalkface I can’t tell you how farcical it is to see the cult around explicit instruction develop Do people really think we didn’t explicitly instruct or taught by discovery prior to 2014? I’d laugh if it weren’t for the damage being done to education

@BradleyKBusch @KatieEHolmes_ Here, by contrast, is the more widely known deductive method. Easy enough if one has both a solid recall of the content (as might be tested in retrieval practice) and, very importantly, a knowledge of the structure/hierarchy, which is more doubtful without teacher scaffolding.

I don’t have a substack but the ‘santa-cam’/‘elf reporting to Santa’ weaponsises anxiety, teaches children to internalise shame, treats behavioural choices as inevitable manisfeststions of an intrinsic binary morality and it needs to stop OK thanks.
