@YouGov If only Britons tended to look stuff up, instead of swallowing whatever duplicitous shite the Sun and the Mail excrete every day, they would be both smarter and far less miserable.

Had the best day. Started on a journey of writing my memoirs, my life story, call it what you like. I’m not claiming to be anyone and maybe no one is remotely interested… but it feels good to put it in some kind of order and to have some/any of it make some sense to me.

@LBC It never ceases to astonish me that so many wilfully ignorant people line up to call LBC every day, each one hoping for an opportunity to broadcast their ill-informed 'thoughts' to everyone else in the country.

“I think it’s baloney.” Caller Vincent sees no correlation between Trump’s war in Iran and the rise of fuel prices, much to Simon Marks' disbelief.

@ClarksonsFarm1 I think anyone on assistance should have to itemize their purchases. Actually, the money should only be for whole foods (no takeaway, no packaged meals) and hygiene. They get one chance to deviate, then they’re out.

Jeremy Clarkson has proposed that benefits claimants should be forced to write a genuine thank-you email to a random worker every week—or risk having their payments stopped entirely. In his recent Sunday Times column, written in response to Andy Burnham’s speech on social care funding and the possibility of further tax rises, the Clarkson’s Farm star pointed out that hardworking taxpayers currently “feed, clothe and entertain those who won’t work at all” yet receive nothing in return. He noted that more than a million young people are neither working nor looking for work, with many “sitting at home gormlessly watching shortform nonsense,” and that unemployed youngsters citing ADHD or other mental-health issues can claim up to £194 a week in Personal Independence Payment. Under his plan, each week when benefits are paid the recipient would be given the email address of a randomly selected person who is getting up and going to work; unless a proper, genuine message of thanks is sent, the money would stop. He insisted he wanted “fulsomeness” and “effusiveness,” not a cursory “thanks mate,” and specifically to hear what the claimant had done with that week’s £194. As an example of the kind of message they should send, he offered: “It is SO kind of you to go to work every day so that I don’t have to. Thanks to you I was able to buy an even bigger television this week.” He even suggested the mere prospect of having to compose these weekly letters might persuade some PIP claimants that “they don’t have a head-based neurodivergence issue after all.” What do you think of this tongue-in-cheek idea to mitigate the growing welfare issue? have you any ideas yourself?

The importance of each Beatle in terms of how much you reduce their success and impact if they weren't there is: Paul, George Martin, John, George, then Ringo. And the only one I'm not sure about is Ringo. You could place him anywhere from 3rd to 5th.

@dewjl9 @ZoeJardiniere @ZiaYusufUK Safe routes, yes ("legal routes" is a bit of a misnomer). The problem as I understand it is that there currently *aren't* any. As for "safely escorting" migrants back to France, I honestly can't see how that would deter anyone willing to risk their life once from doing it again?

@PrimeShade @ZoeJardiniere @ZiaYusufUK I absolutely believe we should take our fair share and there’s where appropriate safe and legal routes come in but at the same time need to do something radical to deter people making the crossing, for their safety as well as having a secure border

@dewjl9 @ZoeJardiniere @ZiaYusufUK That argument is only remotely viable if you'd be happy about France returning migrants to English shores, were they trying to get there from here. Maybe you would, but I bet Yusuf and his rancid fans wouldn't. In any case, the French probably reckon they're doing their bit:

@ZoeJardiniere @PrimeShade @ZiaYusufUK I hate everything Reform are but don’t think it’s unreasonable to safely escort migrants back to French shores. Would be an immediate deterrent and what are the French going to do about it? It’s not like they’re going to fire at innocents. Trying to separate party from policy

Britons tend to believe that more migrants are crossing the English Channel in small boats than in previous years, although official figures show the lowest year-to-date numbers since 2021 More than previous years: 36% (-11 from 23 April) Less than previous years: 28% (+15) About the same: 17% (-3)
