@tosinandmachine Because at this rate you just can’t predict what United is going to do, and the Data guys are doing a great job, the signings of Youri and Santos has shown that..Toping the line breaking pass metric, and I trust they’d consider metrics for the CDM position too, so I’d just Trust

The reason I’ll always prefer technical midfielders over pure runners or physicality is simple: the ball moves faster than any player. People said Pep Guardiola couldn’t dominate with two No.10s and only one holding midfielder in a 4-1-4-1 featuring David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. The result? 100 points and one of the greatest teams the #PremierLeague has ever seen. That’s why I welcome the signings of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. Santos, in particular, is one of the league’s best when it comes to line-breaking passes metric. After carefully comparing every realistic option on the market, the only midfielder I’d still add is Sander Berge. Since it has been reported #MUFC have moved on from Carlos Baleba, Berge is the only remaining profile I’d pursue. They’re different players, but Berge’s composure, progressive passing and ability to control possession would make him an ideal fit. Give me midfielders whose first instinct is to receive, scan and play forward. That’s how you build a penetrative possession team, not one that relies primarily on transitions. Maybe I’m wrong… but I’m more optimistic about #ManchesterUnited recruitment than I’ve been in years.

🚨 Manchester United are reaching out to defensive midfielders’ agents ahead of next signing, a DM after Santos and Tielemans. Manu Kone among players being mentioned in internal talks and with initial approach on player side; not the only one. 🎥 youtu.be/QrFXfLRlwzE

@tosinandmachine When I heard Sander Berge wanted to say but you wanted Baleba before I read through and see that you are reporting that Manchester United have moved on from Baleba…Baleba’s return this last season was really poor, I am just waiting to see what they’d do

If United are genuinely planning to sign three midfielders, as reported, I wouldn’t mind completing the trio with another Premier League-proven player. For me, we still need an out-of-possession (OOP) midfielder with endless energy, a dynamic box-to-box profile who can cover ground, win duels and drive transitions. The one name I’d target is Carlos Baleba. I don’t judge players based on a single season. A fair assessment of player development should be made over at least three full seasons, not a short purple patch or bad seasons due to some factors. If Santos and Tielemans have arrived for a combined £83m, the club may have deliberately secured two financially sensible deals first before committing £60–70m on one marquee midfielder. It’ll be interesting to see whether United pursue another midfielder or convert Mason Mount into a more central role. We’ll find out in the coming weeks. #MUFC

Tottenham hijacked the deal and signed the young boy for the same £85m, giving him £200k-£250k per week. A few weeks later, INEOS used that same £85m to sign Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, with both earning £120k-£150k weekly. This club isn't just teaching football, it's teaching business too. The money that gets you one quality product can also get you quality and quantity. I'm learning 😂

🚨 Peter Schmeichel on Senne Lammens: 🗣️ Reporter: “I think Lammens should’ve done better there.” 🗣️ Schmeichel: “Football doesn’t work like that. People judged one moment. I looked at everything before it. Senne hadn’t played a single minute in this World Cup. Then all of a sudden he’s facing Spain in a knockout game after Courtois goes off injured. Goalkeepers also need rhythm. They need confidence. I didn’t see a goalkeeper who wasn’t good enough. I saw one who was asked to replace the best goalkeeper in the world in Belgium’s biggest game of the World Cup after spending the entire tournament on the bench.”

The biggest problem with many #MUFC recruitment discussions on Football X is that they’re driven by emotion rather than analysis. A lot of the biggest Manchester United fan accounts rarely discuss why a player should or shouldn’t be signed. Where is the analysis? • How does Player A fit the manager’s system? • What are the strengths and weaknesses? • What do the underlying statistics tell us? • How does the player compare with the options already in the squad? Instead, the conversation often revolves around fan-favourite signings. If the club doesn’t sign those players, the transfer window is immediately labelled a failure, creating unnecessary panic and negativity before we’ve even seen the recruitment plan play out. Criticism is part of football, and it’s healthy when it’s objective. But it should be backed by reasoning, data and context not just emotion. Supporting #ManchesterUnited doesn’t mean agreeing with every decision. It also doesn’t mean assuming every decision is wrong before the outcome is known. We all want the same thing: a successful #MUFC.

Let’s talk about wages. We all know football transfers are a risk. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Using Manchester United as a case study, how many players on huge wages have consistently justified their salaries over the past decade? I have no issue with paying high wages if the club is getting a return on its investment. The problem starts when a player’s form declines. A player who looked like a ⭐⭐⭐⭐ signing when he arrived suddenly becomes a ⭐⭐½ player. The club then feels the need to strengthen that position, making the player surplus to requirements. His market value falls, but his wages remain high. That’s when the cycle begins. Top clubs aren’t interested because of the player’s performances. Mid-table clubs may want him, but they can’t afford his wages, so they ask for a loan instead. The player often prefers to run down his contract, and the club is left carrying a huge financial burden. This is exactly why wage discipline is just as important as good recruitment. A transfer fee is paid once. Wages can become a long-term liability. Good recruitment doesn’t end when a player signs. It starts with making sure the contract remains sustainable if the transfer doesn’t work out. #MUFC #ManchesterUnited #Transfers

We need to understand as football fans that sometimes a complete change in approach is necessary when a club has failed to achieve its objectives for over a decade. Take PSG as an example. For years they chased the Champions League by signing established superstars. It made them dominant domestically, but the European trophy always escaped them. The club eventually changed its recruitment philosophy. Instead of chasing the biggest names, they focused on younger, coachable players who fit the manager’s style of play and could develop together as a team. Players like Vitinha, João Neves, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola and Willian Pacho weren’t viewed as glamorous marquee signings at the time, but they perfectly matched the football PSG wanted to play. The result? 2 X UEFA Champions League title. Man utd need to build a balanced team with the right profiles, a clear identity and players who buy into the project.
