Santos, in particular, is one of the league’s best when it comes to line-breaking passes metric. After carefully comparing every realistic option on the market, the only midfielder I’d still add is Sander Berge. Since it has been reported #MUFC have moved on from Carlos Baleba, Berge is the only remaining profile I’d pursue. They’re different players, but Berge’s composure, progressive passing and ability to control possession would make him an ideal fit. Give me midfielders whose first instinct is to receive, scan and play forward. That’s how you build a penetrative possession team, not one that relies primarily on transitions. Maybe I’m wrong… but I’m more optimistic about #ManchesterUnited recruitment than I’ve been in years.

Perhaps so, and that’s a fair point. He had big moments and was useful in certain games. My framework, though, measures a player’s overall career impact relative to expectations, consistency, tactical fit and long-term value,not just medals or clutch performances. That’s why he falls into the “Miss” category for me.

He did win two trophies, and I acknowledge that. My assessment isn’t based solely on medals. Fellaini’s profile never matched what Manchester United were trying to build. He was often played out of position and never truly nailed down a role. I even remember Louis van Gaal using him as a striker at times,that says everything about how he was viewed tactically. For me, that makes him a MISS relative to what the club needed, not because he was a bad player. #MUFC

Something makes me think once we missed out on Fernandes that United were looking at a way out of the Ederson deal. Tielemans & Santos medical done quick, and Tielemans currently has some injury issues. Could be wrong but we’ve signed players injured before (Hojlund).
