As Vice Principal, if my Principal goes down to 4 days a week, am I deputising in his absence on the 5th day, or should I be paid for the responsibility? #slt #education #teachertwitter

@HTMISTERK It’s a tricky one. I know it’s part of my role ordinarily, but this is more long term, planned, and would ultimately increase my workload, not to mention add another level of pressure. Thank you for your reply!

@PrincipalNew Always an interesting one. Contracts for deputies (vice) usually include “covers for head in their absence” however because this is every week I think you have grounds to have that recognised financially. Worth a discussion.

@PrincipalNew @HughesHaili ECT I was asked about the programme which was running my ECT. Spoke about meeting with mentors, how often/what do they include, support from dept/SLT and school community. Mentor was asked about my targets and I had to confirm them separately and what was in place to meet them

Do you add something about each subject in the curriculum? My headteacher wants something ‘meaty’ for each subject.

How long should a SEF be? Ours is 27 pages long. Is this normal?

@ballater6 We seem to be taking the approach ‘the longer, the better’, as it is more detailed.

@MrsCarrPRUHead My Principal is the same … I feel a bit powerless to help too and would love his contribution to T&L more, but he just doesn’t have the capacity!

Just reflecting on how much my role as HT has changed over the last few years - I seem to spend a huge % of my time now dealing with safeguarding - logs, records, meetings, talking etc. It is becoming increasingly difficult to focus of the academic curriculum. Is anyone else?💡💭

@PrincipalNew It’s important that you do. They can’t be late for directed time but you might need to calculate it if you haven’t done so already. The NEU have a form you can use. neu.org.uk/sites/default/…

What’s generally the policy around dealing with teachers who are consistently late?

@frankietweetart The children get registered at 845. I need to check the directed time stuff though. I don’t want to pull people up on something that isn’t correct.

@PrincipalNew You have it written in policy so you can use that. What time does first lesson start? If they turn up after directed time starts that is clearly late.

@frankietweetart Some turn up between 830 and 840. Kids start at 830. School policy states they should be in class ready to teach from 830.

@PrincipalNew What’s classed as late though in your school? Does their contract state a start and finish time?

@ballater6 I’ve already spoken to them and it’s continued. I think there’s a deep routed issue of people getting away with it…
