I’m sorry, but this trend of either childless men or guys in their early 20’s glorifying endlessly hustling at expense of everything ain’t it, & fortunately I’m pretty sure it’s dying. Sure, it’s okay at certain seasons of life, but after a certain point… Look, I work hard, 12 hour days are very normal, I’ve “made it” by any reasonable financial metrics, & yes, you’ll have some sacrifice, but it’s the exception, not the rule, & definitely shouldn’t be something considered noble. It’s not mutually exclusive, you can prioritize key family moments without compromising business. Let’s judge the fruits of this “money-is-god” culture that spawn up in the 1980’s & is yielding its results now… Depression rates have doubled, suicide rates up nearly 50%, marriage rates at lowest ever recorded levels, collapsing birth rates, more men under 30 report being “disengaged, directionless, or unsure of their calling” than ever before, almost half of U.S adults claim serious loneliness, etc. It’s not just because of this, it’s a symptom of a deeper issue, but still. Even when I was growing up, no one cared how much money you made, they cared what kind of job you had and if it was cool/interesting/virtuous, and cared about the type of man you were more than your bank account… I’m not saying don’t work hard, absolutely you should work hard, service and providing value to others is one of the most noble things we can do… Grind for a purpose, for a greater cause, to provide your family a good life, but to actually give them a good life, not a materialistically prosperous life for the sake of better clothes or cars, but rather one rich in quality time as well Mindlessly grinding for things no one actually cares about, to impress people you literally can’t stand, & doing work that doesn’t provide any value outside fueling consumerism ain’t it.
