#Polkadot #OpenGov critical issues (improvable and eliminable): KusDAO: Media, Governance and Opacity Hybrid control: It manages both Kusamarian (media platform) and AAG (governance group), concentrating narrative and decision-making influence. This creates a conflict between information and power: its analyses can orient the vote on proposals from which KusDAO itself benefits. Selective admissions: Onboarding processes criticized as opaque (e.g. exclusion of gianttigerprawn without explanation), favoring internal ideological alignments. A case in point: Controversy with proponent Max on treasury financing, where KusDAO used "unprofessional" tones to discredit criticisms, raising doubts about manipulation of consensus. ChaosDAO and Focused Delegations: Fictitious Decentralization Disproportionate Weight: Despite having democratic internal governance (1 member = 1 vote), it controls 1M DOT delegated by Web3 Foundation. This turns it into a macro-actor with power equivalent to large whales, despite the "decentralized" rhetoric. Strategic Voting: In divisive referendums, it votes "Nay" in 71.1% of cases, showing an alignment not always consistent with the widespread interests of the network. Coordination with KusDAO: Together they control ~2.2M delegated DOT (out of 7M total of Decentralized Voices). Their informal coordination could bypass small holders in track with low quorum 3. Technical Fellowship: Whitelisting and Opaque Fast-Tracks Whitelisting Power: Can classify proposals as "safe" or "urgent", shortening approval times. This creates a risk of favoritism: proposals from Fellowship members or allies may receive unjustified priority. No external veto: No independent body verifies the Fellowship's decisions, leaving room for technocratic self-validation. Concentration of Power in Decentralized Voices (DV) Counter-intuitive effect: The DV program has reduced voting inequality (-15% Gini index), but top DV delegates control 37% of the power on the Medium Spender Track. This creates a new delegate oligarchy. Low turnover: Despite the theoretical quarterly rotation, large delegates (e.g. ChaosDAO) maintain dominant positions, limiting democratic turnover. Treasury Track: Perverse Incentives for Big Spenders Bypassable Critical Thresholds: In tracks like Big Spender, a cartel of 3-5 entities (e.g. coordinated DAO + whale) can force approval of proposals with minimal support (e.g. 15% of total DOT), exploiting low turnout. Hypothetical example: A DAO could propose a marketing bounty to a controlled agency, with manipulable KPIs (e.g. "social engagement"), draining funds through self-funding. Systemic Conflicts: Technocrats vs. Community Technical Fellowship, Technical Security, Elitism: resistance to upgrades that reduce their power KusDAO/ChaosDAO, Political Influence, Nepotism: favoring member-affiliated projects DV Top Delegates, Maintaining Delegations, Conservatism: opposition to reforms that redistribute the vote Inadequate Mitigations Insufficient Transparency: Fellowship decisions and KusDAO admission criteria are not fully on-chain, limiting verifiability. No Cold-Down: A Fellowship member can vote on proposals they whitelist, with no mandatory “cool-down” periods. Passive Delegation: 68% of small holders delegate to entities like KusDAO without monitoring their votes, fueling inertia. Compromised Sovereignty? Conflicts don’t centralize Polkadot, but they reveal unresolved tensions: Governance is an evolving experiment, but hybrid oligarchies (technocrats + DAOs) are eroding the “1 token = 1 vote” principle. Urgent fixes are needed: radical transparency in onboarding, term limits for DV delegates, and on-chain KPIs for treasury bounties. Higher risk: Not a coup, but a death by a thousand cuts where normalized conflicts of interest dissuade participation, consolidating de facto powers.

@Polkalexdot What gives value to a token almost never corresponds to software performance, if anything it is proportional to the diffusion and therefore size of the community (quantity and quality of people who identify with the project) and relative resilience in blocking savings.

$DOT is vastly superior to $ETH in every way! How is it possible that we are only ranked 29th? The sleeping giant is going to AMAZE the entire crypto sphere 🔥📈🚀

Polkadot ⭕ - I'm riding with Gavin I think we agree that the price has been frustrating. It topped out at the end of 2021 like many other tokens, followed by only bear market rallies over the last few years. Because we did not do more early on to create sustained demand for DOT, and because parachains launched straight into the 2022 bear market, we dipped harder than others in our class and have underperformed. The only real way to appreciate this is to zoom out. Look at where the market is today, think about the actual goal of Web3, and then look at the tech to see which platform is closest to fulfilling that promise over the next few years. Given what Polkadot 2.0 + Hub is now and what JAM is becoming, I am riding this one out with Gavin. Narratives change very quickly, and when the real wave of users arrives, many chains will not be prepared. DCAing - $Dot

The real problem with $DOT is that it keeps making enemies, not friends. Remember all the parachains and projects (some with big names) that we have turned down? Remember all the genuine teams that was right about something but couldn't implement it on $DOT due to the political infighting? Well, $DOT ended up making enemies of them. If you look at their profile histories, most of those people who now talk trash of $DOT were once believers of $DOT. Do you find such large dissident groups in any other blockchain ecosystems? OpenGov encourages a particular voting behavior that promotes division, and demotes collaboration. It's a curse, not a blessing. No matter whether you think $DOT is successful or not, one thing is certain -- $DOT is a failure in its governance.

Why DOT is dead: A very interesting referendum passed capping the supply of DOT to 2.1 billion This kind of news should be incredibly bullish for anyone that is following DOT and considering buying The problem is that the price didn't move at all What does that mean? It means that no investor or trader is following what is happening on DOT because the interest is now zero The only reason why the price is not zero is because some traders on exchanges buy and sell it without even knowing what it is, technical traders When a very important event happens for a project and the price doesn't react it is an indicator that no one is following that project, those are rare opportunities to gauge the amount of interest in a project When it comes to DOT the amount of interest is roughly zero

🚨 DOT supply → capped at 2.1 Billion 🚨 The Polkadot DAO has signaled support for a hard cap, by passing Referendum 1710 on the “Wish For Change” track, with 81% in favor. Today ⤵️ → 1.6 Billion DOT exist → 120M DOT/year minted each year → No supply cap What Ref. 1710 outlines ⤵️ → A 2.1B cap on total supply → New DOT issuance steps down every 2 years on Pi Day (March 14) That means lower emissions, and scarcity ⤵️ → By 2040, supply would be ~1.91 Billion under Ref 1710's model vs ~3.4 Billion under the current 120M/year model. Scarcity, predictability, long-term alignment. Do you think a hard cap makes DOT stronger? 👇

Social norms are fucked out here guys. All these LA insta girls have a price. Any Saudi Sheikh handler can DM propositioning a pretty girl on Instagram for $$. Cost of living crisis so young women turn to OF and escorting and respond yes. Young men are incel raging or pairing off with trans (shooter of Kirk). If you are lucky enough to have a partner who loves you - hold on tight bc it feels like we are in a hybrid time period some mix between the inequality/financial crisis/inflationary 1920s and the days of rage/political violence/sexual liberation of the 1960s. Meanwhile all this societal breakdown must continue happening for my crypto portfolio to keep going up - talk about cognitive dissonance!

However, there remain significant unknowns that continue to burden dot holders, benefiting opportunists who waste no time exchanging the dots they receive in exchange for useless services that no one requested. First, dot loses its usefulness as a token with the introduction of POP and the payment of rewards with stablecoins. Introducing a cap on token supply in a POS system without regular burning and expanding the audience burdened by gas is the ultimate evil. The tax excuse used to justify the introduction of the cap is incredibly false; all crypto projects are subject to the same taxation, which has no related effects. It's unclear why no protection is offered to dot holders and validators/nominators when the introduction of a supply cap is being attempted, only to then decide how much to allocate to the Treasury. There's little transparency here and a strong whiff of bad faith. written with conscience and love for the community that is tired of announcements and demands substance.

Today's panel about Polkadot's JAM clarified once and for all a few things 👇 29:51-32:51 Communication and Branding, the relay chain will be swapped for the JAM chain. It will be like rebranding Windows 95 to XP, but still under the Microsoft umbrella. Polkadot will be the brand, the tech powerhouse, JAM the tech. Still, OpenGov will have the final say, but: 32:55-35:02 Leadership opinion is still key to the community voting on OpenGov regarding branding and other sensitive topics. Especially, 34:10 OpenGov made the sentiment clear, and there is alignment, and now we have a way to push forward 46:02-47:41 Token used in JAM, clear signal from OpenGov. Especially, 47:15-47:41 Polkadot is the brand of the network, JAM is the tech 47:44-53:44 Governance in JAM won't be about upgrading everything anymore, but rather local upgrades 1:26:01-1:30:00 What it means for validators, yes, will be using beefier hardware, but nothing outside the enthusiast specs

I have a few questions: Why is it that while a return is being called to cap the supply, the amount to be allocated to the treasury isn't specified? Do you find it reasonable and transparent? How do you intend to make up for the shortfall? What measures are being taken to compensate for the loss? I see that some validators are shutting down nodes. How do you intend to prevent a stampede resulting from low earnings? And secondly, how do you intend to procure the stablecoins needed for the rewards? By selling dots? No protection was mentioned for dot holders, no one said a word. What incentives would be offered for holding dots?

@ProPolkadot After Berlin? 220M unstaked? We are currently at -100M DOT staked from the ATH (September 2024) and there are 75M DOT in the unbonding queue. The unstaked DOT could be on Bifrost or Hydration.

@CryptoCappex So, by correlation, is it equally irrelevant that after Berlin there are approximately 220 million dots in unstaked? Is it plausible that this is a clear no to the new roadmap?
