At the India AI Impact Summit this week, iSPIRT is bringing a clear thesis: we believe the answer to concentration is ecosystem infrastructure. Open, interoperable, sovereign by design. The same institutional imagination that produced India’s DPI ecosystem will define whether AI serves everyone or only a few. These ideas will find space across the summit this week. iSPIRT is co-hosting this session with Fairfax to explore what a DPI for AI could actually look like. What are the institutional arrangements that make AI adoption easy, trustworthy, and scalable, especially for the millions of MSMEs and government agencies that will determine whether AI diffuses broadly or stays concentrated in a few companies? The conversation brings together voices from Japan, Brazil, the United Nations, and MIT alongside Indian policymakers and builders. India is piloting cross-border data collaboration with France and Brazil through DEPA, exploring how private institutional data can power AI training without leaving its home. It is building open techno-legal standards that let technology enforce what regulation promises. For the first time, a DPI for AI is being co-built with the world. International pilots running in parallel with domestic architecture.

We have been advocating for bold reform by the RBI. One of them was abrogation of the Softex form. RBI announced a Gazette Notification No. FEMA 23(R)/2026-RB dated 13 Jan 2026. This notification has taken some action but not a bold one. The Softex form is gone and is replaced by a single EDF form for Goods and Services. The other change is that it is not mandatory to get STPI certification. Your Bank can certify Software Exports from October 01, 2026. The Services that are not Software will also have to file the EDF from now with the Bank or Customs as the “specified authority”.
