I need to reach more readers. I'm thinking of self-publishing the next book CINESTHETIC solely on @amazon KDP, rather than paperback... Opinions?

I don't know. Maybe I don't get my ad campaigns right. Maybe they haven't got that certain je ne sais quoi that draws people to them. What do you think?

This week's Thursday Throwback features Bar Stool Elegy by @jdclappwrites It's a striking piece with a punchy, driving rhythm we loved. 'Scribbling this barstool Elegy on A tear-stained napkin For seasons lost, Sins forgotten then Remembered' Read it now in Issue 5.

Told my cousin (a writer) I was only ever a week away from quitting writing and they said "a real writer is only ever three days away from quitting" so there's that.

@uvray_deceased It is, absolutely. But if writing wasn't a part of my life, I'd feel empty. I always have something to work on that I want to share. It just...is. I want you to keep writing books and find someone in the US to give them the grand treatment they deserve. Cross fingers.

@ProfANSmith It's just so exhausting to keep swimming against the tide.

“Your name’s not down, you’re not coming in.” The old bouncer on the door. Now the preserve of those critters who’ve wangled themselves as our literary gate-keepers and formed their own little buddy-clubs, all licking each other’s genitals. Is self-publishing the answer?

@uvray_deceased The game is like this, eh? 1) it's not like it was in the 90s and early 00s, more traditional, but 2) it still allows for a lot of self-starters to fight for our own space. Depressing but also hopeful.

@ProfANSmith That makes for quite depressing reading. It's bang on though.

@uvray_deceased I know what you mean about the cult. I always considered myself a cult writer with a tiny cult. Instead of trying to dump the cult label, I'm going to "recruit" new readers to the cult.

@uvray_deceased I think we're on our own (except when a small press helps). We have to do it ourselves. God knows I didn't want to HAVE to do it. But I'm going to follow the indie music artist model. I've been reading Joel Gouveia's Substack about this: substack.com/home/post/p-18…

@uvray_deceased ...and to do that, we need to sell ourselves somehow. I'm going with a Substack to get my name out there (again), try to get people interested in the old titles, stick around for the new. I have small presses publishing me know, some self-pubbed, and plan to keep splitting it.

@uvray_deceased I think that's CRAZY hard but it would've been with a big press too (I've seen friends get zero help with NYC books a lot). It might be slow, but building a true readership willing to buy every book might be the only way forward...
