Every time an actor has stood down from playing James Bond it felt like it was time for a change. Either they stayed too long or their interpretation was getting stale. But No Time To Die is the only film that made the series seem so exhausted, demoralised and redundant.

@ms8955a Agreed. Friedkin was usually candid. If he didn't want to admit a film he made was dire, he was more than happy to slag off movie stars he found impossible.

@EllroyReader really wish famous directors wouldn't shy away from discussing their awful projects and calling them out for what they are

One of two films Friedkin directed that he doesn't even mention in his autobiography, presumably because it is unredeemable.

@ProfANSmith Roger Moore said Diamonds was is favourite Bond film that he didn't appear in. It's a got a lot of problems but it's also irresistible. I give up.

@EllroyReader On the other hand, I love Diamonds because it *is* a cartoon. It's complicated.

This is a tricky one. Die Another Day is the lesser film, but No Time To Die caused the most damage to the series.

I loved these books. They were my entry into crime fiction. Crais cut his teeth writing for Miami Vice.

@EllroyReader Oh, I'd dump No Time to Die. DaD has a fantastic opening sequence (okay, the Madonna song sucked) right up until Bond walked into the Hong Kong hotel and asked for his usual suite. NT (and all the Craigs) were so serious and dull. Pass.
