There have been multiple cases of intimidation and physical violence against protesters that further energized rallies. The Georgian administrations keep repeating the mistakes of their predecessors - turning to authoritarian tactics has resulted in the loss of power in the past.

Diverging from longstanding pro-🇪🇺 aspirations is political suicide in 🇬🇪. Over the past 2 weeks almost nonstop demonstrations have been held against the so-called „Russian law“ that the administration recently reintroduced, despite withdrawing it last year due to public pressure

@NKuhrt I agree on the lack of in-depth knowledge of Ukraine (and often Russia too). Another trend I observed was overemphasizing material factors at the expense of ignoring ideational ones. I wrote this back then: duckofminerva.com/2022/04/nation…

I think it was the same for many ppl especially as few ppl in West had in-depth knowledge of Ukraine.

To put cards on the table, I was also a bit wrong about aspects of the invasion. Fwiw, I thought Putin would invade. But I expected it to be a more limited "raid" than a drive to the capital. & I underestimated Ukraine's initial defence & overestimated Russia's initial offence.
