Older people living with dementia deserve to be cared for in the right hospital environment, by health care professionals with the right training. Proud to be involved in this important study led by @delirious_nurse and @DrEHGordon @AusFrailty

Such an important study & should be the call to action for hospitals to do delirium prevention right. We need to recognise who the majority of people in hospitals are (news break, it’s complex older people) & design our health systems and environment accordingly! @ProfREHubbard
The BMJ@bmj_latest

Findings of new study suggest delirium was a strong risk factor for death and incident dementia among older adult patients. The clinical implications of delirium as a potentially modifiable risk factor for dementia are substantial, say researchers bmj.com/content/384/bm…

@StevenMathern @David_D_Ward @bmj_latest @DrEHGordon @slavaxx There’s good evidence now that we can do a lot to (i) prevent delirium and (ii) reduce its severity. Multicomponent interventions reduce delirium incidence by 40%. Nutrition & hydration; mobilisation; sleep; pain; social interaction; vision & hearing…. Just sensible care really.
