present: it big
past: both > it was big/was big
ён/ гэта вялікі, дужы > быў вялікім - belarusian
он/ это большой > был большим - russian
and in ukrainian there's no verb or w/o subject as well

We very rarely would say "to jest duże" - "it's big", because it sounds unnatural to us, meanwhile it's the correct form in english.
Isn't russian simmilar in that context?

In Polish and in Slovak (I think in Czech too) we definetly use "to be" in front of adjectives.
We'll say "jest duże i piękne" - "is big and beautiful" and not "to duże i piękne" - "it big and beautiful"
