Do people know that music agencies send guys out to restaurants who basically act like a health inspector but it’s to make sure the business is playing music that they own the licenses to? And if they catch you playing copyrighted music they can sue you? That’s a real thing.

@Fr0mAshesRise It’s insane, it’s because any business that plays a song is considered “profiting” from that music so you have to pay to be able to play it. Which sounds like it’s helping the artists but royalties barely ever go to them anyway, it mostly goes to the record companies.

I remember once at my last restaurant the manager took a call,then hung up and was like "these people always call and ask us about if we have a license to play music and I just hang up on them, what a weird scam." I just went "ASCAP called?" And she went "yeah, how'd you know?"
