
Bro I think you went about this the wrong way. The only option would be to question the place of government. You don't know what that child will be tomorrow if he survives. If we have a good health care system, this contribution will not be necessary.
During my masters program, a fellow Nigerian realized he has cancer. Everyone in France has 70% government coverage (health insurance), but the guy applied for full coverage and it was speedily processed.
He was given food 24/7, went through the entire process (we only visited, helped to carry some of the things he needed when moving from hospital to the house in few instances). Now, he's cancer free, all paid for by the government. He's been working here and you can now imagine the loyalty he'd have for the country.
As a people, we need not forget that 99% of our problem is due to bad governance.
