Meet me on Easter Monday on the steps of St Paul's for a tour of sightseeing and storytelling, rambling through the alleys and byways of the Square Mile in search of the wonders and the wickedness of the City of London. thegentleauthorstours.com/p/booking

One of the best public art projects I've seen. Grim park shelter turned into glorious roman-style mosaic menagerie, by the Hackney Mosaic Project.

@eyed_loon Your post resonated with me as I also have an ancient Basil and I’m dreading the day which is probably not far away. Tho we know it will come one day it’s unutterably sad. A dark day for you. I’m sorry. 🐾

Morning all. Apologies for not replying to anyone yesterday afternoon. Stressful day. Had to take my old dog Basil on his final trip to the vet yesterday so a very stressful afternoon. Not really feeling it today, so I won't be around much if at all. Maybe tomorrow.

@AlexRMaclean @LBFlyawayhome Because of this illustration I impulsively bought a blue dress with lace vaguely reminiscent of this as one of my first eBay purchases, years ago. I am yet to find an event worthy of wearing it 😂

@LBFlyawayhome This is THE DRESS. The pinnacle of every fairy tale illustration, above the arrival of the coach, better than anything the Princess & the Pea, Rapunzel or any of the others could offer. I spent so many hours choosing, but I think this is it. Thanks Helen, merry Christmas 😃

@QcWynter @KBGreyhoundlady Unfortunately the bulk of the comments on the WI unofficial Facebook page are handwringing and support transwomen being members. Any dissenting voices are not treated with the ‘be kind’ ethos at all.

@KBGreyhoundlady The trick is in the language. He "discovers" his true self, albeit very late in the day. He will say that he has always felt like & known that he is a woman, irrespective of whether he has fathered children by use of the usual combination of indelibly & uniquely male organs.

Love Denis Healey. My idol as we're both Yorkshire lads from the same neighbourhood but generations apart. I got the courage to approach him in a rare and secondhand bookstore in Washington DC in the late 80s when I was a young (and dumb) staff aide working in the US Congress. I couldn't believe it was him but it was indeed Denis Healey browsing the stacks. I struck up the courage to talk and he was incredibly kind. We ended up having a coffee together - just shooting the breeze from Yorkshire, opera, piano concertos, classics, to US history and British politics. He had such a mischievous sense of humour. He taught me a valuable lesson which was to to always have passions outside of politics. He certainly did. 'Time of My Life' is one of the finest political autobiographies I've read by a politician.

When Denis Healey delivered the 1976 budget, he walked from 11 Downing Street to Parliament. On the way, he spoke to members of the public -- in three different languages. He spoke French to a group of French tourists and German to a German visitor.

@BradfemlyWalsh Thanks. In my naivety it was a little bit alarming to go through and see 3 members of staff waiting for me and smiling sympathetically, but they were all kind.

@ProofingRach That doesn't sound fun, you poor thing. I think you're braver than me because if I have to have one eventually then I'll be demanding all the drugs!

Hysteroscopy update: Consultant: let's look at the results of your transvaginal ultrasound. Me: I haven't had one, my GP sent me for this instead. C: WHAT? But we never do one without a transvaginal first! Me: I've been asking why I haven't had one but they just said to tell you

@BradfemlyWalsh Sorry to hear this. I’ve had a similar experience recently. The hysteroscopy was quite upsetting and I’d recommend painkillers beforehand. But I was glad for 2 members of staff holding my hands on either side & for tea and cake afterwards 😢

If you have bleeding after menopause you're supposed to be seen within 2 weeks for a transvaginal scan. Because of NHS fuckery, it will be 3 and a half months when I finally have one. It's an absolute disgrace. And it's all bureaucratic failures, not the consultants themselves.

A woman named Hayley Crawford created ‘Ask for Angela’ to help women who were being targeted with male violence to seek help. She has had to resign after her initiative was ‘taken out of her hands’ without notice and crucially - the remit broadened to include men - including removing the female image. #AskForAngela
