Saudi Arabia's normalization with Israel has nothing to do with Palestinians. It is about Saudi erroneous self-perception and collective delusion of grandeur, that peace with Israel is a net win for Israel, and therefore the Jewish state must sweat for it. Perhaps this was true until 2000, but since then, it is Saudi Arabia that would be the net winner from peace with Israel. The Saudis can't make a ragtag militia open a 20-mile wide waterway whose closure is going to suffocate Saudi oil exports. And Riyadh still thinks the world rotates around it. Ahmad al-Sharaa's true intentions remain an open question. As part of our efforts to better understand the intentions of the new regime in Syria, we continue to look for indicators that may shed light on the direction it is taking – particularly on how it seeks to shape Syria's future generation. Recently, we published a report examining the updated 2024–2026 curriculum of the Dar al-Wahi al-Sharif (دار الوحي الشريف) school network – an educational network affiliated with Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) that now operates as part of the Syrian regime's official education system. We have now published an expanded report presenting additional examples of Islamist-extremist, jihadist, antisemitic, and anti-Israel content drawn from the network's 65 official textbooks and workbooks. These findings, on their own, do not allow definitive conclusions to be drawn regarding the intentions of the Syrian regime. However, they provide another indicator that should be taken into account when assessing its ideological direction. Although these findings are embedded "between the lines" of the network's educational materials, and although Dar al-Wahi al-Sharif remains relatively small compared to Syria's public education system, the network continues to expand, enjoys institutional support, and, in our assessment, has the potential to become a significant instrument in shaping Syria's future generation.
