Through free eye surgeries at Kalyani Eye Care, Nimtouri, they have emerged from the shadows of blurred existence, their eyes brimming with tears of joy and gratitude as the world unfolds anew in vivid splendour. These moments remind us of the vulnerabilities we all share, and the transformative power of selfless service to turn despair into delight.

On National Girl Child Day, I extend my heartiest love and blessings to every daughter of Bengal and India. They are the future architects of our society. In Bengal, we don't celebrate the girl child merely on one day; we celebrate her and empower her every single day of the year, at all crossroads of her life. From her birth to her education and self-reliance, at every single turn, our government stands by her as a supportive hand-holder. This journey begins with Kanyashree, our globally acclaimed and awarded pioneer initiative to promote girls' education and well-being by discouraging their unhealthy early marriage. 1 crore girls over the years have been financially supported by us in this scheme to retain girls in formal educational institutions. Another related scheme, Sabooj Sathi, eases the child's mobility and movement to schools by grant of a bicycle to each student. She also gets support from schemes like Shikshashree, Aikyashree, Medhashree, Taruner Swapna, in addition to getting free textbooks, school uniform, shoes, midday meals, etc as further assistance from our government in her journey along the path of education. When the girl finally marries, she gets one-time financial assistance under our Rupashree scheme. Then, an adult senior woman is enrolled in the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme, which now provides financial independence to 2.21 crore women of Bengal who get direct monthly cash transfer from state government. As the prime anchor of the household, she also gets Swasthya Sathi card, which gives her and her family assured health insurance coverage @ Rs 5 lakh per year. Today, Bengal’s daughters are excelling in every field, from the laboratories of science to the podiums of international sports. As #Sebaashray2 concluded Day 43 in Diamond Harbour, it reaffirmed a simple truth of responsible governance: healthcare must reach people where they are. Through consultations, free medicines, and timely referrals, care was delivered with dignity, not delay. Starting today in Diamond Harbour, Sebaashray carries forward a clear commitment that signals continuity, compassion, and the assurance that no one is left to face illness alone.

Today marks a moment of profound pride and spiritual fulfilment for Bengal as I laid the foundation stone of Mahakal Mahatirtha in Siliguri, envisioned to become one of the world’s largest and most resplendent temple complexes. Spread across 17.4 acres, this sacred site will welcome nearly 1 lakh devotees every day, offering a space where faith, heritage, and collective reverence converge. At its heart will rise the world’s tallest Mahakal statue, a majestic bronze form standing 216 feet tall, symbolising eternal strength, compassion, and spiritual awakening. Within its pedestal will be housed a Mahakal Museum and a cultural hall, preserving and celebrating the rich legacy of Shaiva tradition. The complex will feature replicas of India’s 12 Jyotirlinga, twin Nandi shrines, expansive circumambulatory paths for thousands of devotees, and sanctified spaces dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya, Shakti, and Lord Vishnu Narayan, in accordance with sacred architectural traditions. Through stone art, sculptures, and frescoes, the timeless story and glory of Mahakal will be brought vividly to life. Facilities such as sacred kunds, prasad centres, cultural arcades, and amenities for pilgrims and priests alike will ensure that devotion is nurtured with dignity, care, and comfort. I also laid the foundation stone of an Ekalavya Model Residential School at Charkhole in Kalimpong, with an investment of Rs. 46.81 crore, benefitting nearly 80,000 people from Scheduled Tribe communities. I inaugurated the ‘Chaa Bandhu’ free ambulance service for workers in tea gardens of North Bengal, 17 childcare centres for families of tea garden workers, and 11 health centres in Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, and Darjeeling. Additionally, I flagged off 18 CNG buses of WBTC, 13 CNG buses of SBSTC, and 6 sleeper Volvo buses of NBSTC from Siliguri, with a total investment of Rs. 22.06 crore, strengthening safe, sustainable, and modern public transport across the region. I express my deepest gratitude to all who will devote their labour, skill, and sincerity to the creation of Mahakal Mahatirtha, from our administration and planners to every worker at the site. It is through their commitment that this sacred vision will take enduring form. Every place of worship, be it temple, mosque, gurudwara, church, or Jaher Than or Majhi Than, commands our equal reverence, for unity in diversity is the soul of our civilization. Over the past few weeks, what has stayed with me most is not just the scale of Sebaashray, but the way people have responded to it. From Diamond Harbour to Nandigram, I have received messages, letters, and requests from families who felt that this initiative spoke to a real need in their lives. Listening to those voices, we decided to extend Sebaashray to Nandigram, covering both Block I and Block II. Today, as I visited the camps, it was heartening to see people coming forward with trust and hope, engaging with the doctors, and making use of the services with confidence. Sebaashray matters because healthcare cannot be distant or complicated. It has to be accessible, free, and delivered with dignity. It has to reach people before distress turns into crisis. Seeing the response in Nandigram reassures me that this approach is being understood and valued by the people it is meant to serve. I am deeply grateful for the affection, faith, and encouragement shown by the people. Your understanding strengthens our resolve to continue this work with sincerity and responsibility.

Set tangible 5-day targets, track progress rigorously, and follow through with determination. When public representatives, booth-level workers, and these Digital Joddhas work in seamless coordination there is no mountain too high, no propaganda too strong.
