Georgia Power is expanding power lines to support a massive new data center, and they’re using eminent domain to take homes and land from families — including her childhood home behind her. She explains that homeowners have no choice as the utility seizes property by force. This isn’t isolated to Georgia. The explosive growth of data centers is happening across at least 38 states, driven by the massive AI boom as tech giants like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Meta build out enormous computing infrastructure. In several states — including Georgia — utilities are using eminent domain to expand high-voltage power lines needed to feed these power-hungry facilities. Have you seen or heard about eminent domain being used for data centers or power lines in your area?
