Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth has moved his “Surrey ditch the RCMP” stance from a recommendation to an order.
Now eyes turn to Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, and whether she will try and fight the decision.

Good public policy decision by the Provincial Government in ordering @CityofSurrey to get on with the police transition. Hopefully Mayor Locke will take the hint and move on.

The City knows our costs for Surrey RCMP and we've budgeted for them. With SPS, a 10% tax increase for policing would be required next year - and we're in for more surprises. Just consider retention bonuses, bloated severance packages, unknown capital costs and two-man cars.

@CityofSurrey wants to develop this land, in spite of what they say now. They have been trying to tax it at a value of up to $20 million for most of the century but they keep losing on appeal. The City will not abide it going to First Nations.
