Cashed my last 4 @WSOP events of the summer, one bullet each 💰 $50k NL – $100,497 $10k 6-Max – $20,144 $5k NL – $10,594 $1k Super Turbo – $2,344 One thing that’s become more important at the WSOP is that most events pay 2x the buy-in for a min cash instead of ~1.5x. That significantly increases the bubble factor, making optimizing to cash much more valuable as the money approaches. One adjustment I make with sub-50bb stacks is to dramatically reduce flatting vs opens, even in position, and instead lean much more toward a 3-bet-or-fold strategy with hands that you’d normally flat. The goal is to avoid bloated multiway pots and postflop collisions that can cause you to bust. When you do end up in a postflop hand, you want to have a higher threshold to value bet. You can use smaller sizes to avoid setting up river all-ins. On the river, you can also check some hands you would normally value bet to avoid reopening the action. Around the bubble, you’re happy to sacrifice a little chip EV in exchange for reducing variance until the money bursts. This may not sound sexy, but it’s the way you make the most amount of money, reduce variance, and also keep a growing bankroll that can survive the brutal swing of tournament poker. On the flip side, when you have the big stack on the bubble you can be optimizing to push around others who need to play I described above.
