@cb_doge Blaming DEI for Hollywood’s decline is lazy analysis. Oscar ratings were falling long before these standards existed. The inclusion rules also aren’t “racial quotas” — most films qualify easily without changing their story. Good movies still win on quality, not checkboxes.

David Rubin served as President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 2019 to 2022. In 2020, under his leadership, the Academy launched the “Representation and Inclusion Standards” for Best Picture eligibility. These rules, still in effect, require films to meet at least 2 of 4 diversity criteria involving race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or disability in on-screen roles, creative leadership, or crew. Rubin publicly backed the changes and helped appoint the task force co-led by producer DeVon Franklin. He shifted the Oscars from “best movie wins” to race/gender engineering. A film can now be ineligible for the top prize purely for failing demographic quotas, regardless of quality or audience impact. Instead of focusing purely on talent and storytelling, the Academy under Rubin institutionalized identity preferences. Oscars prestige and viewership have tanked. Many see it as performative politics over art. Classics with non-diverse casts would be disqualified. He helped install the DEI machinery that turned awards into checkboxes and accelerated Hollywood’s quality decline.

You can probably pick more than half of them up on outstanding warrants from their home states and then ship them off. Deport the small portion of illegals (not much of a problem though). The rest cannot sleep outside. Drug and alcohol free shelters only. Psych wards for the remainder. All it takes is enforcement of existing laws.

It’s simply irrational and political to blame suppliers of a product for a supply shortage wehn they are willing to build almost anything anywhere. 🙄 Supply meets demand when unencumbered. It had for 150 years in your city. Have you ever met with the people who actually construct housing, the suppliers? You are only meeting with the demand side of the equation. Developers build to what the city zones to and what the city allows. The demand side just wants to artificially constrain price. That’s will never create more supply. Never. That’s it, pure and simple.

Seattle has one of the worst housing crises in the country. I see it every time I’m home in my district. People working full-time jobs who can’t afford rent. Teachers, nurses, and transit workers who can’t live in the city they serve. Families on housing assistance waiting lists that have been frozen for years. This is a policy failure, not an inevitability. We built this crisis by choosing developers over people. We can choose differently. Housing is a human right. We fight for it like one.
