Hi friends. Over the past five days, two children have been murdered in Australia. Their deaths bring the number of children killed in 2024 to four. ❤️Yesterday, a 10-year-old girl was stabbed to death in Boolaroo, NSW, allegedly by her 17-year-old sister. ❤️On Friday, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death at Narromine, New South Wales, allegedly by a 26-year-old male. ❤️In February, a seven-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death alongside his mum in North Parramatta. The child's dad was also killed and a man known to the family is charged. ❤️In January, a one-year-old boy was killed in Werribee, Victoria. A 29-year-old male is charged with his murder. I wanted to take the time to post about the killing of children today, especially as many people have reached out about why I have not included the 10-year-old girl in my women lost to violence count. My killed women count includes women and girls 16 years and over. I have considered widening the count to include all girls but I'm still trying to overcome problematic areas with this. In the meantime, every child killed - regardless of perpetrator gender or their relationship to the victim - is documented on my projects: The Australian Femicide Map and the Memorial to Women and Children Lost to Violence.
