I started composing this text a long time ago, based on the fact that many people consider Rudeus trash. Rudeus Greyrat is a complex and multifaceted character who, throughout the novel, demonstrates moral and ethical maturity despite his shortcomings and difficult past. His development and actions reflect a desire for self-improvement, concern for others, and a deep understanding of moral principles. Self-Awareness and the Drive to Improve In his past life, Rudeus was a withdrawn, socially isolated person who was bullied. After reincarnation, he consciously decides to change his character: he avoids arrogance, tries not to repeat the mistakes of the past, and lives without regrets. He constantly works on himself, trying to overcome his fears, develop social skills, and become a better person. This desire for self-improvement is evident in his actions and decisions throughout the plot. Caring for Loved Ones and Protecting the Weak Rudeus shows deep affection for his family and friends. He defends them when necessary and strives to help those in need. For example, he teaches Eris magic and cares for her during their journey through the Demon Continent. He also helps Pax Jr. enroll in Asura Academy, feeling guilty for his father's death. His attitude toward his family and loved ones is based on love and responsibility, which contrasts with his past, where he was deprived of such connections. Politeness and Respect for Others Rudeus is very polite to others, although his manners can sometimes make people uncomfortable. He strives to consider the perspectives of others, even when he finds himself in a difficult situation. This is evident in his interactions with various characters, including those who do not always treat him kindly. Aversion to Violence and Killing Despite his fighting abilities, Rudeus hesitates at the thought of killing someone. This stems from his moral principles, which were shaped by his past life. He only displays aggression when his family or loved ones are threatened. This aspect of his character emphasizes moral maturity and a refusal to resort to cruelty, even when it may be beneficial. Learning from Mistakes Rudeus is not perfect, and his life has been full of mistakes and failures. However, he is able to acknowledge his mistakes and learn from them. For example, after the incident with Sylphy, in which he misjudged her gender and embarrassed her, he realized that he was unable to treat women with the same respect as men. This experience helped him overcome one of the negative aspects of his character. Another example is the situation when Rudeus and Eris were captured. After his near-death experience, he began to seek help from others more often and stopped acting alone. Developing Empathy and Understanding Over time, Rudeus learns to better understand the feelings of others. His interactions with various characters—Roxy, Sylphy, Eris, and later his family—promote the development of empathy and communication skills. He gradually overcomes his social immaturity and learns to build healthy relationships. Character Complexity and Contradictions It's important to note that Rudeus isn't a perfect character. He has flaws, including perversity and a tendency toward selfishness. However, it is precisely this contradiction that makes him more realistic and humane. His imperfections don't negate the positive qualities he develops throughout the novel. Conclusion Rudeus Greyrat deserves respect from both a moral and ethical standpoint due to his drive for self-improvement, caring for his loved ones, respect for others, rejection of violence, ability to learn from mistakes, and development of empathy. His journey is the story of how a person, starting from scratch, gradually becomes a better person by overcoming their shortcomings and developing positive qualities.
