I get this is operational briefing and that political effects are not really Gen. Cooper's problem. But wars are fought for political goals, and there's something very Vietnam-ish with reeling off stats about munitions dropped with no sense of those goals.

@Huly16609302 @chrisschmitz It mainly boils down to system integration if you want a high end system. Requires a lot of engineering capacities and resources that would have to be built up gradually. Aside from engines most of the individual technological building blocks could realistically be tackled.

The answer regarding #fcas is simple. Just do it, without Dassault. MBB and DASA have produced groundbreaking prototypes in the 90ies, that were killed politically. MBB Lampyridae was a stealth fighter in the early 80ies. TDEFS was close to F35A conceptually, in the 90ies.

Das liegt aber nicht an Nieten (die eingesenkt mit RAM beschichtet sind), sondern an anderen Dingen. Vergleich F-22:

@AlexLuck9 Giving Dassault a >50% share on NGF (biggest value pillar) with 2/3 funding from 🇩🇪🇪🇸 is hard to sell. An alternative could have been setting up a EF-style governance with more 🇫🇷 appointees while keeping the 1/3 split. Contrary to popular belief this does work well in practice.

What seems more likely to me is that Berlin now feels under the pump finally making some hard decisions involving funding. German industry for several years demanded their own NGF demonstrator, but government never had any appetite funding such a push, competency issues aside.

I'm not sure this is all that "explosive" a matter. The French requirements on carrier use and nuclear mission were known from day 1. I struggle to believe this could be an issue of contention years after the supposed workshare (incl yes a French lead on NGF) had been allocated.

@KampfmitKette @Bjoern__M Zum Beispiel musste der Kran des Nachladefahrzeugs neu qualifiziert werden :-) Ansonsten wurden EMV Untersuchungen gemacht, Protokolle angepasst usw. Ich finde man sollte hier dazu übergehen, auch mal vorläufige Betriebserlaubnisse zu erlassen.

Im September 2024 wurde IRIS-T SLM formal an die Luftwaffe übergeben. Danach folgte aber, wie üblich, die Nachweisprüfung des Beschaffungsamts, die 1,5 Jahre dauerte. Gestern kam das erste System in die Truppe. (Bild: Luftwaffe)
